Asian American Advocacy Fund – Political Director
The Asian American Advocacy Fund, a non-profit 501(c)(4) social welfare organization based in Norcross, Georgia, is currently seeking an experienced individual to join its team in the position of Political Director. The individual selected as Political Director will report directly to the Executive Director.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Political Director, who is based in Georgia and reports to the Executive Director, is
responsible for the following:

Political & Partnership Planning, Direction, and Coordination: 30%
● Helping to define the political strategy for 2022 and beyond by interfacing with program
staff to ensure Asian American Advocacy Fund meets organizing and political goals for the year
● Help to ensure that programs will run with a clear political strategy, that organization and community values are represented
● Help lead the team through processes on a regular basis to align on strategy and
develop plans for implementation and execution

● Manage and coordinate projects across the team and across the movement

Organizational Planning, Direction, and Coordination: 25%
● Maintaining and growing Asian American Advocacy Fund partnerships with other Asian American organizations in the state while creating new partnerships
● Work collaboratively with organizational leadership and movement membership to guide overall organizational direction
● Engage in and guide rapid response to key political moments across the organization

Engagement with Partners, Elected Officials, Campaigns, and the Public: 25%
● Representing Asian American Advocacy Fund in multiple “rooms” to ensure the
organization’s needs are part of the conversation and strategize how to move forward
with policy or endorsements
● Will work collaboratively with the organizing and communications teams to set the overall direction of our political and partnerships strategy and work with the organization to
support our members across the state to develop political skills, strategy, and knowledge
● This person will hold and build relationships with key partners, politicians, candidates,
and political campaigns
● Engage in some public facing spokesperson responsibilities to the movement, the public, and the press to advocate Asian American Advocacy Fund’s political and policy positions
and priorities

Management & Administration: 20%
● Oversee the day-to-day work of the political team to ensure the overall yearly goals are
met
● Facilitate the workflow, along with keeping an ear to the ground for possible local and
world events that could impact and shape the work of the Asian American Advocacy Fund
● Help set and manage budgets
● Work with the Organization and Communications team to achieve the political strategic goals of Asian American Advocacy Fund

QUALIFICATIONS
Must Haves:
● Experience working in/with a base-building organization, 501(c)4, and PACs

● A minimum of five years of grassroots community organizing experience with
issue-based or community organizations, including two years of electoral campaign
experience
● Proven ability to plan and execute strategies with team members, while providing
opportunities for growth and accountability
● Experience organizing in AAPI or AMEMSA communities, or other immigrant spaces
● Proven skills in relationship-building among community partners, and other stakeholders
● Commitment to immigrant justice, and the values of the Asian American Advocacy Fund
● Dependable, detail-oriented, and well organized – able to multitask, meet deadlines and adapt to the changing political dynamics

Nice-to-haves:
● Understanding of Georgia politics and regional landscape, with experience in national
political strategy
● Enjoys going to events to network and build relationships to represent Asian American
Advocacy Fund in the community
● Wants to help build Asian American political power in Georgia
● Someone who is growth-oriented and has a growth mindset, who enjoys looking at and
strategizes how to improve upon systems and processes
● Has a strong tie to the Asian American community

POSITION DETAILS

Position: Political Director, Full-Time
Salary Range: $85,000 – $110,000, Dependent on Experience
Benefits: Fully covered Medical, Dental, and Vision Coverage, Paid PTO & Holidays, and 401K.
Relocation stipend available if appropriate.
Start Date: Early 2022
