About Point’s Mentoring Program

The group mentoring program is designed to serve our growing community of Point Scholars at every level of post-secondary education, from community college through doctoral study. The mentoring program matches small groups of Point Scholars with one or two mentors. Each group meets (via video conference) weekly for one month and work collaboratively to support participants’ personal and professional growth.

Each mentorship group focuses on one of several pre-defined “tracks” designed to strengthen skillsets that have significant impact on LGBTQ students’ personal and professional success. In 2023-24, mentorship tracks include authentic networking, career exploration, LGBTQ advocacy, and an introduction to purpose-driven leadership. Using an intersectional LGBTQ lens, Point staff design a set of track-specific resources and activities that mentors can draw from to create their group’s distinctive learning experience. Point staff also provide mentors with training and ongoing support throughout the mentoring experience.
