Membership Programs Internship

Purpose of the Role  

The Membership Programs Intern supports the Membership Team with the planning, implementation, and communications of professional development events and programs designed for Global Ties U.S. members. This includes webinars, online resources, and in-person events such as our Network DC program, annual National Meeting, and Diplomacy Begins Here Regional Summits.   

The ideal candidate should possess a solid foundation in communications and/or events experience (can include coursework and/or previous internships), including the ability to make simple website updates, write and edit short, compelling copy to market our professional development programs, and compile and analyze data to support improvements to our programs. The ideal candidate is meticulous in their attention to detail and is comfortable using (or learning to use) various virtual meeting platforms, databases, project management platforms, and website content management systems (e.g. WordPress). They should also possess a strong work ethic, positive, can-do attitude, and commitment to collaboration and teamwork. An interest in international affairs, advocacy, and/or public diplomacy is an asset. Through this internship, we hope to support candidates seeking careers in program management, specifically in the nonprofit or international exchange field.

Core Responsibilities   

  • Writing and editing digital marketing and program materials  
  • Assisting with planning and implementing professional development programs, both in-person and virtual 
  • Maintaining and reporting on membership data and contact information  
  • Building project planning timelines and action lists 
  • Customer service to members  

Qualifications

  • Enrolled as a student during the internship period  
  • Desire to pursue a career in public diplomacy, international exchanges, international affairs, and/or nonprofit management. 
  • Strong writing, editing, communication, and organizational skills, with a preference for those with experience in writing, editing, and/or preparing content for websites or email and/or in event planning or project management 
  • Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and virtual meeting software (e.g. Zoom Webinars). Familiarity with platforms such as Bridge LMS, Salesforce, Cvent, Basecamp, Canva, InDesign, and WordPress are a plus

Work Environment 

  • Hybrid work options: Required in-office days on Wednesdays and Thursdays, with the ability to work remotely on other days. 
  • Occasional need to come into the office outside of traditional in-office days for event-related activities
