The Soho Center for Mental Health Counseling, NY is looking to hire a full-time (9-day probation period) Medical Receptionist/Admin/Assistant to the Clinical Director.  *PLEASE APPLY ONLY IF YOU ARE ABLE TO WORK EVERY SATURDAY AND SUNDAY FROM 2PM to 7pm as well as 3 Days during the weekday (flexibility is a plus)*

ABOUT THE SOHO CENTER FOR MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING

We are an established group psychotherapy practice seeking an experienced part-time Insurance Specialist/Scheduler for our SOHO office (Must be available to work both Saturday and Sundays from 9am to 7pm). We are open seven days per week and we pride ourselves on excellent client care and service and are seeking candidates who have exceptional customer service skills, is a collaborative team member and enjoys working with others. Candidates with EHR system (Simple Practice/TherapyAppointment) experience strongly preferred; must have extensive experience with medical electronic health care records, insurance and billing (in particular, extensive experience working with out of network benefits and explaining/negotiating fees or payment plans with patients). Must be a team player and willing to work with the other Admin team to cover breaks/lunches/sick days at the front desk. Flexibility to cover the weekend receptionist from 9am to 7pm at times is a must. Strong sales background and accounting also a plus. A degree in Psychology or Counseling and/or an understanding of behavioral health diagnosis and therapeutic techniques is a plus plus!

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A MEDICAL RECEPTIONIST/ADMIN

As a Medical Receptionist/Admin, you are our brand ambassador! You ensure that each patient’s behavioral health journey starts off on the right foot and continues along a positive path. You approach each patient in a friendly and professional manner.  You work with other admin team members to help with administrative tasks to ensure a 5-star patient experience. Whether it is their first or a return visit to one of our specialists, you make sure that they feel welcomed and at ease. You compile patient documentation, scan information, and note any exceptions. With attention to detail, you update demographic records with contact, and insurance. You inform the clinical staff of their arrival and reason for the appointment. As necessary, you discuss the financial responsibility of patients with them.

Like a great conductor, you manage the patient workflow from appointment setting to their actual appointment masterfully. Your warm professional manner comes across over the phone. You schedule patient appointments based on provider availability and treatment length. For all new patients, you verify insurance coverage. You confirm appointments with the support of our electronic system and follow up with the continuation of care for existing patients. With pride, you keep the office environment in order. You enjoy both meeting new people and touching base with long-time patients, and you get great satisfaction out of guiding our patients through quality care in a family-friendly environment at the most affordable rates we can offer them.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A PATIENT CARE COORDINATOR / SCHEDULER/ MEDICAL RECEPTIONIST

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s or Master’s in Psychology or Counseling a plus)
  • Two years of experience in the healthcare field (some sales background a plus)
  • Experience with electronic health records, insurance websites, and digital patient communications solutions
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • ability to think outside the box and find ways to acquire patients (outreach, social media, networking).
  • You must understand the ins and outs of how insurance works, both in and out of network.
