Full-Time Marketing Coordinator

Job Description

This position is responsible for creating and managing museum marketing and visitor services, including integrated marketing communications, community outreach, customer service and museum store management.

The position is consistently involved in a variety of non-routine projects that require professional judgment, discretion and a high degree of independence.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

• Marketing (30%)
Creates awareness and support of museum programs, activities and the mission of the museum through coordination of media appearances, and through production of effective marketing and communication campaigns and materials. Ensures brand conformity, including visual identity, and other brand attributes are used in accordance to Oshkosh Public Museum (OPM) guidelines. Works collaboratively with museum staff to coordinate digital and print marketing communications, such as press releases, advertisements, website content, social media, quarterly printed newsletters and monthly e-newsletters. Actively promotes the museum membership program and coordinates the membership database.

• Visitor Services (30%)
Works with Museum Director and other staff to create and achieve front-end customer service goals, and to support volunteer and part-time staff in customer services activities.
Acts as lead worker overseeing museum visitor services employees, including scheduling, tasking and training. Serves visitors in a professional and courteous manner in purchasing admission, merchandise, event tickets and museum membership.

• Gift Shop (20%)
Oversees the museum store operations, including creating store displays, maintaining and ordering inventory, seeking new products to stock and preparing merchandise for point of sale. Coordinates returns of merchandise to suppliers if needed. Uses point of sale system to conduct sales, generate reports, and track inventory.

• Events and Special Projects (20%)
With the Museum Director and Assistant Director, cultivates philanthropic support for the museum via sponsorships, grants, fundraisers and donations. Works cooperatively with museum staff to plan, prepare and execute events that engage the public.

• Performs Other Duties as Assigned

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree in marketing or a related field.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience of increasingly responsible work in marketing, fundraising or customer service.
• Valid driver’s license.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Excellent writing, public presentation and oral communication skills.
• Highly skilled in providing front-line customer service.
• Experience in retail sales and managing inventory.
• Ability to manage and coordinate events
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Proficient in e-communication design and distribution.
• Ability to create and manage budgets.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Possess a high level of creativity and energy.
• Ability to meet deadlines and achieve goals.
• Ability to manage and sustain a creative, vibrant and successful membership program.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Experience with member/donor programs.
• Experience with grant writing and administration.
• An appreciation of history, art and museums.
• An awareness of basic museum theory and operations
• Experience with online survey development.

• Computer with the following applications: MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and web browsers
• Point of Sale system
• Membership and donor databases
• Standard office equipment such as: multi-line telephone, voice mail system, copy machine, fax machine, printers, digital camera, fax machine and 10-key calculator.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands and fingers to handle or operate objects, equipment, tools or controls; and to reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, full color perception and the ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is moderately quiet.
