Full-Time Managing Director

Title: Managing Director
Reports to: Executive Director
Hours: Full Time
Compensation: Base salary of $76,000/year with potential for up to $86,290 depending on experience and cost of living. 
Benefits: 6 weeks annually of paid vacation, 99% employer-paid health-care premiums, paid family and medical leave, and family support grants for employees with dependents.
Location: Remote; Option of officing if local to SF Bay Area
Organization Description
Trans Lifeline connects trans people to the community, resources, and support they need to survive and thrive–building a resilient trans community through trans-led direct services. Trans Lifeline’s Hotline provides peer support and crisis support. Our Microgrants program provides low-barrier grants to trans people in need of legal name changes and updated government IDs, HRT, as well as funds for trans people who are incarcerated. By providing care and financial redistribution, Trans Lifeline identifies the trans community’s most pressing needs and brings that expertise to broader gender and racial justice movements.
Organization & Position Description:
Trans Lifeline connects trans people to the community, resources, and support they need to survive and thrive — building a resilient trans community through trans-led direct services. As part of overseeing Trans Lifeline’s program services, the Managing Director will supervise the Hotline Program Director, the Microgrants Program Director, Volunteer Manager, and potentially one more report, ensuring that:
1. Program budgets are supervised, supported, and resourced with adequate  staff, volunteers, equipment, information, training, etc.
2. Oversee creation, implementation, rollout, and accountability for organizational employment policies and procedures with HR Director; train and provide management support to Program Directors using this framework
3. Create strategic plans for each service department, in collaboration with Program Directors and Tech relay goals and programmatic objectives to program staff and leadership team
4. Oversee the implementation of technological tools and project management systems for programs
5. Ensure program budgets are prepared on time to effectively and transparently communicate spending for the year
6. Support the collaboration of programs to strengthen interdepartmental work across the organization in service of the mission and vision of Trans Lifeline
7. The organization is accurately communicating our program service accomplishments to all stakeholders and interested parties
The Managing Director will also work with Trans Lifeline’s Leadership Team to develop a strong organizational culture and practice grounded in equity, impact, and sustainability. This position will also frequently collaborate with the Operations, Advancement and will be responsible for the administration of programmatic costs & funding, budgeting, and restricted grants.
The Managing Director will report directly to the Executive Director and will directly supervise the Hotline Program Director, the Microgrants Program Director, and the Volunteer Manager. This position will also frequently collaborate with the Director of Operations and Director of Advancement, and will be responsible for the administration of programmatic costs & funding, budgeting, and restricted grants.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 
– Set and implement both annual and long term program goals that are in support of organizational goals, and lead on tracking progress to goals
– Develop and oversee meeting schedules, retreats, systems, and structures for holding, managing, and communicating the work across the organization
– Develop, implement, and oversee work-flow systems and decision-making structures to ensure coordination and completion of projects across internal departments and external partnerships
– Build trust and collaboration between departments, programs, leadership, and Board
– Support department sustainability & structure, ensure redundancies, capacity, workloads, and time-off plans
– Provide support, professional connections, problem-solving strategies, and management skills-building for direct reports
– Identify mentorship and professional development opportunities for program staff and ensure those opportunities are accessible
– Collaboratively develop, implement, and oversee an equity and inclusion plan and practice in conjunction with the BIPOC Caucus and the leadership team
– Maintain regular and reliable communication with all staff, and outside stakeholders (where necessary)
Requirements:
– At least 2 years experience of upper-level management experience including managing horizontally across departments and up
– At least 3 years with a minimum of 2 direct reports within social justice organizations or movements
– Direct management experience of staff who also manage multiple reports
– 2 years experience using project management software, such as Asana, Notion, or Trello
– Demonstrated experience in conflict transformation, restorative justice, or conflict resolution in marginalized communities
– Comprehensive knowledge of nonprofit culture & employment laws
– Experience in transgender communities and communities of color
– Demonstrated efficacy in conducting and/or establishing equity efforts
– Ability to travel for work at least 4 weeks out of the year, when safe to do so
Preferred Qualifications:
– Recent (within 3 years) management training from Rockwood, Management Center, or AORTA or equivalent management training
– Speaks Spanish fluently
– Experience supervising 3 or more direct reports within social justice organizations or movements
– Experience in management within a remote workplace

This full-time position will work remotely, with the option for an office if local to the SF Bay area. Compensation for this position is dependent on Trans Lifeline’s salary structure. Our salary structure takes into account location-dependent living wages, market wages for similar positions, prior professional, educational, and non-professional life experience, and a promise to not have our highest-paid staff make more than 2.6x our lowest-paid employee. The complete range is $76,000  to $86,290. The final offer will be based on the completion of a prior experience evaluation that all Trans Lifeline staff complete. Our offers are not negotiable as part of our efforts to maintain a transparent salary structure and ensure just and equitable compensation across the organization.
