The Building & Construction team provides assurance, testing, inspection, and certification services and building science solutions to deliver Total Quality Assurance to the built environment. The team offers the architectural, engineering and construction (A/E/C) industry with a full suite of capabilities both in the lab and on site.
Laboratory Manager

The Building & Construction team provides assurance, testing, inspection, and certification services and building science solutions to deliver Total Quality Assurance to the built environment. The team offers the architectural, engineering and construction (A/E/C) industry with a full suite of capabilities both in the lab and on site.

This position is responsible for day-to-day supervision of the Structural laboratory, personnel, and projects within a Building and Construction team.

What you will do:

  • Supervise personnel and projects within assigned location/department, including assigning staff to new jobs and scheduling
  • Inspect and review projects to monitor compliance with all applicable parameters
  • Oversee calibration, maintenance, service, and occasional modifications of all test equipment
  • Mentor and train staff to broaden their scope of capabilities
  • Performance evaluations of subordinates
  • Maintain a safe and organized laboratory
  • Structural laboratory accreditation and quality assurance
  • Communicate technical information to technicians
  • Proposal preparation
  • Assist in preparation of forecasts and sales reports
  • Prepare working drawings for curtain wall mock-ups
  • Testing, as assigned
  • Review of data sheets and reports from technicians
  • Provide data interpretation to clients
  • Review and thoroughly understand contract requirements and document any deviations
  • Performs other work as assigned

What it takes to be successful in this role:

  • Engineering related degree
  • 5+ years construction related experience
  • Experience with AAMA, Miami Dade, LADBS testing procedures and requirements
  • General working knowledge of test equipment, test methods, and applicable specifications associated with structural performance testing
  • Technically competent to effectively communicate testing procedures, specifications, and results with technicians and customers
  • Well-informed on applicable industry organizations, codes, and specifications
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment with shifting priorities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Diverse interpersonal skills
  • Strong management skills and the ability to delegate tasks are necessary
  • High level of computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Pro
  • Experience utilizing AutoCAD
  • Ability to travel as business needs dictate, estimated 5-10% of time may require travel
  • Ability to routinely lift 50 lbs over the course of an 8-hour day
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record (required)
