In-House Counsel

Minneapolis, MN-hybrid

Taco John’s International is looking for a full-time in-House Counsel to provide legal support across the organization, offering practical and timely advice to departments including Marketing, IT< Supply Chain, Development, and Operations. This role is responsible for managing contracts, supporting compliance efforts, and advising on a range of legal matters that impact day-to-day operations. The ideal candidate brings strong legal acumen, sound judgement, and a collaborative mindset to help the business navigate legal risks and opportunities.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF THE IN-HOUSE COUNSEL

As the In-House Counsel, you will provide legal advice to internal teams on a variety of matters including contracts, compliance, intellectual property, and regulatory issues. You will draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts and legal documents. You will maintain a centralized system for tracking lifecycle of contracts and advise on breach and termination matters.

The In-House Counsel will support compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, particularly in areas such as food safety, traceability, marketing, and labeling. You will assist in the protection and proper use of the Company’s intellectual property, including trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. Manages trademark filings and enforcement. You will partner with the Marketing team to review promotional materials, contests, sweepstakes, products, and menu labeling to ensure legal compliance. Additionally, you will provide legal support related to franchising operations and compliance with franchise laws, including preparing the Franchise Disclosure Document and franchise agreements.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE IN-HOUSE COUNSEL

• The ideal candidate will have 4 – 7 years related legal experience.
• Doctoral degree (Juris Doctor) from an accredited law school and active Bar license/membership in good standing required. Must have MN license or be eligible for admission under Rule 7.
• Experience with contracts required.
• Advanced knowledge in any of the following areas of law: marketing/advertising, trademark, commercial business, real estate, employment, bankruptcy, or litigation

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• A combination of law firm and in-house experience.
• Franchising experience in a law firm or in-house with a franchisor or large multi-unit franchisee.
• Knowledge of procurement processes and RFPs.
• General understanding of supply chain and logistics.
• Experience with contract management software and workflows.
• Experience with restaurant operations and brand standards compliance matters.
• Experience in data privacy and security requirements.
