We are looking for a seasoned warehouse operations leader with a track record of success in a fast-paced distribution environment. This individual will assume full responsibility for the strategic direction of Uncommon Goods’ Warehousing Operations and 3PL Distribution Centers.This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer and is based in our Brooklyn, NY office.

ABOUT YOU

You are a dynamic warehouse leader with e-commerce and business to consumer fulfillment experience.  You excel at motivating and leading the Operations team at all levels and hold a high bar for you and your team. Essential Responsibilities

  • Complete responsibility for high-volume e-commerce parcel fulfillment from the company
    • In our Brooklyn, NY Warehouse you will be responsible for inbound, inventory, stock keeping, and outbound operations
    • Regionalize our distribution network by cultivating relationships with 3PLs and/or expanding our footprint
    • Leads the Network Optimization, Business Intelligence, and Continuous Improvement teams
    • Collaborate and partner with Product Management and Tech Developers to improve our WMS, WCS, OM, TMS, etc.
    • Increase capacity, lower order cycle time, improve quality and efficiency are the key metrics you’ll be expected to meet.
  • People responsibilities
    • Drives a servant-leadership philosophy while holding the team accountable.
    • Provides leadership to a team of 15 management personnel and 40+ hourly year-round team members
    • Successfully coordinate the hiring, training, and off-boarding of 600+ seasonal and part-time team members.
  • Financial responsibilities
    • Successful experience managing $30 million P&L with a proven track record of achieving year on year improvements
    • Liaise with Accounting to ensure accurate budgets and monthly P&Ls
  • Evaluate the entire operation to identify opportunities for cost savings and improve quality
  • Other areas of responsibility
    • Prior experience negotiating contracts with Parcel Carriers  (e.g., FedEx, UPS, and regional carriers) a plus
    • Led implementation of goods-to-man systems, auto-boxers & baggers and paperless order processing
    • Experience with greenfield or turnaround operations

Skills & Qualifications

  • 7+ years of professional experience with evidence of increasing responsibility in Operations Management, some of which is a warehouse environment
  • Experience scaling up and scaling down a seasonal business, including but not limited to hiring 300+ seasonal warehouse associates
  • Prior experience managing labor spend, 3PL, and overhead costs.
  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience, preferably with a focus in an analytical field
  • Prior small company or start-up experience is a plus. Consulting experience is a plus
  • Strategic and tactical experience improving, building and executing scalable processes
  • Exceptional quantitative skills and aptitude. Deep knowledge of Excel and familiarity with databases and SQL
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail
  • Creative problem-solver with excitement to work on cross-functional teams and projects
  • Effective team building and leadership skills
