JOB FAMILY DESCRIPTION

Responsible for building the financial tools and mortgage models. Develops mathematical formulas and computer programs to create mathematical models of mortgage behaviors and risks. Uses financial and probability theories as well as past trends to develop predictive modeling about the future behavior of mortgages loans.

GENE RAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for analyzing, testing, and calibrating mortgage prepayment and loss models.
  • Assists in designing and executing model performance monitoring requirements for prepay, default, and loss models.
  • Works closely with Development Team on the application and product development of financial tools. Provides consulting and analysis to clients using these tools.
  • Performs ad hoc analyses as needed and assist managers of specific product lines with analytical projects.
  • Designs test cases and test applications for systems to ensure the business needs are met and analytics are correctly implemented.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATIONAL GUIDELINES

Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Finance or the equivalent combination of education, training, or work experience. Master’s degree is preferred.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Working experience in financial institution and banking industry is a plus
  • Customer support experience is a plus
  • Experience in AFT model is a plus
  • Experience with major risk vendor products, such as Poly, QRM, or Intex is a plus

GENERAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Extensive knowledge of financial and probability theories as well as the behavior of various mortgage products and financial markets
  • Knowledge of mortgage and economic data
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python
  • Ability to translate business needs into technical solutions
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to apply to practical applications
  • Ability to solve complex technical problems, assimilate information rapidly and work under time constraints
  • Team player with the willingness to collaborate with other technical and non-technical partners
  • Client focused approach with strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent oral, presentation and written communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving ability and organization skills
  • Ability to successfully network with other departments where necessary

Financial Engineering Consultant I

Entry-level role into the job family. Works with financial models of some complexity using advanced mathematical, analytical or econometric tools. Defines and discerns key aspects of problems that require intricate analysis and research, and develops moderately complex solutions within a broad technical and business context. Functions, somewhat independently, under general direction of more senior Financial Engineers or management. Generally works on a small number of projects as a project team member. Typically requires up to three (3) or more years of related work experience in developing mathematical formulas, financial models and computer programs to create complex models of market trends and risks.
