Salary Range: $109,498 – $158,728

The Executive Director, Secondary Schools is an experienced principal supervisor who assumes full ownership for the outcomes of the Secondary Schools in DPS through the supervision, evaluation, coaching and development of the Collaborative Directors of Schools (Secondary– Middle School, High School, Pathways Schools), while also serving as a liaison to the DPS Central Office and steward of Denver Public Schools’ strategic roadmap and Office of Schools goals. Provides leadership to Collaborative Directors of Secondary schools (Middle School, High School, Pathways Schools) to develop academic goals and strategies with school leaders. Ensures collaboratives and schools have the resources, development, support and accountability needed to accelerate learning for students. Engages and utilizes the District support teams and resources that will support and strengthen the work of the school. This full-time position is a part of our Central Office Team within the Office of Schools and is a key member of the Schools Team. This role will report to the Associate Chief of Secondary Schools and will ensure their schools have the resources, development, support and accountability needed to accelerate learning for students; achieves goals and Board of Education Ends Policies through our Shared commitment to Students First, Integrity, Equity, Collaboration, Accountability and Fun; and plans, assigns and supervises the work performed in areas of responsibility and ensures compliance with District policies and practices, and appropriate Federal, State and local rules and regulations.

Essential Functions & Objectives

-Leads schools to a shared belief in and ownership of the success of every child; establishes and drives accountability to equity through shared goals, strategic planning, change leadership, school improvement, and innovative practices that are aligned to district goals and instructional priorities and grounded in data, with monthly maps and benchmarks.
-Supervises, coaches and develops Collaborative Directors of Schools in coaching and development of Principals and ILTs in each Collaborative towards outcomes for schools in the areas of instructional leadership, leadership development and school improvement.
-Ensure consistency and alignment across all grade levels in expectations, implementation, and overall principal experience.
-Builds a team of Collaborative Directors of Schools rooted in relationships, collaboration, and a drive towards improved outcomes for students.
-Collaborates with the Associate Chiefs and Executive Directors to share leadership of the Schools Team.
-Models a high level of engagement in Schools Team, Office of Schools and District priorities and goals.
-Recommends changes in policies and procedures to ensure effectively functioning schools and to address the needs of schools, setting a climate for change, continuous improvement, problem solving, collaboration and openness.
-Implements a progress monitoring and assessment strategy that develops the ability of school leaders and their instructional leadership teams to build, implement and monitor a strategic school improvement plan, establish structures for data-driven instruction, and identifies and monitors supports for students aligned to district targets and goals outlined in District Ends Policies.
-Facilitates distributive leadership and develops pipelines for teacher and school leadership; builds instructional and leadership capacity and accountability by facilitating engagement in regular learning cycles, peer-to-peer collaboration and capacity building opportunities to drive improved student outcomes.
-Establishes productive relationships with communities and schools that contribute to a shared vision for equity and excellence that supports the learning of all students, fosters a culture of inclusion, honors a diverse set of viewpoints and sets and accomplishes related priorities.
-Identify trends and patterns across collaboratives to Associate Chiefs of Schools to inform district work, including professional learning, resource development, etc.
-Partner with the Associate Chief of Schools to work across teams to address collaborative and needs.
-Collaborates with the Office of Schools Extended Leadership Team to identify support deployment needs based on data.
-Identify trends and success in support implementation to inform shifts in deployment or approach to holistic supports during ELT strategy meetings.
-Regularly report on status of Secondary Schools’ progress and needs to ensure supports and alignment to district goals and strategy.

Knowledge, Experience & Other Qualifications:

– Five (5) plus years of leadership and experience in an educational setting, with three years of experience as a principal supervisor.

– Five (5) plus years of management responsibility.

– Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations.

-Ability to effectively lead a function.

-Ability to develop, plan, and implement long-range goals, establish priorities, and organize resources.

-Demonstrated experience performing as an effective leader and team player, and recognizing and resolving conflicts or potentially controversial situations through diplomacy.

-Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including the ability to lead a high-performing team.

-Superior leadership, coaching and mentoring skills.

-Looks for ways to significantly improve business performance and growth.

-Strong inter-personal skills and ability to work with individuals at all different levels in the organization.

-Focuses function on strategic goals.

-Encourages diversity and mutual respect among team members and demonstrates compassion and sensitivity.

Education Requirements:

– Bachelor’s Degree

– Master’s Degree in Education or related discipline (preferred)
