Job Description
- Support senior technicians and engineers administering construction contracts via construction inspection and, if needed, stakeout.
- Serve as lead project inspector on small/intermediate-sized projects.
- Perform standardized and non–standardized tests of various materials for acceptance in accordance with contract documents and incorporated specifications/requirements.
- Assist in supervising junior technicians and contractor staff and help in the coordination of coordinate assignments.
- Obtain and maintain certifications required to perform material sampling and testing.
- Write diaries and reports on project operations, complete material reports, document pay records, perform construction calculations, and enter data on computer/iPads.
- Experience with contract administration and proficiency in record keeping.
- Understanding of contracts, plans, standards, and specifications.
- Experience performing inspection, sampling, and materials testing (concrete, asphalt density) to ensure compliance with NCDOT specifications.
- Computer skills using iPads/laptops, HiCams, SharePoint, Microsoft Office, and math functions.
- Working knowledge of pay record book entries and material received reports.
- Commitment to safety in all operations.
- Ability to work safely outdoors with exposure to hazards present on construction sites including traffic, heights, weather extremes, and traversing rough/uneven terrain.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Skilled at making independent decisions using sound engineering judgment.
- Experience with construction surveying and knowledge of surveying methods and procedures is preferred.
- Agility to perform moderate physical activity such as walking, climbing, kneeling, and standing.
- Strength to lift and carry at least 50 pounds.
- You may be required to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours.
- Safety toe shoes are required.
- Candidates with:
- A Class C Driver’s License.
- Ability to obtain and maintain certifications required to perform material sampling and testing and inspection duties.
- Associates Degree in Civil Engineering, Survey Technology, or a related discipline, and
- 2+ years of relevant experience, or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
