The Challenge
We are looking for a skilled Engineering Technician to join our District 2 Permitting team.
In this role, you will:
Perform on-site inspections for compliance with NCDOT standards for driveway connection construction, encroachment installation, and subdivision street construction.
Monitor illegal use of highway right-of-way for signs, utilities, and private activities.
Assist in collecting field data for the review of driveway permits, site plans, utility and non-utility encroachment agreements, subdivision plans, and road additions/abandonments.
Meet with utility representatives, contractors, property owners, and others to discuss adherence to policies/procedures and to answer questions.
Address complaints from the public by phone, written correspondence, and in person.
Operate a computer to prepare documents and maintain databases.
Assist our Division during emergencies and bad weather.
Assist our District Engineer with tasks.
What You Bring
Experience conducting independent, moderately-complex inspections with limited supervision.
Good engineering judgment to assess construction plans, contract provisions, and inspection procedures.
Experience maintaining neat, legible, and accurate records and reports, including computer/iPad data entry.
General knowledge of surveying.
Computer experience using apps on iPads and computers.
Education & Experience
Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related field, and
2+ years relevant technician-level experience; or
An equivalent combination of training and experience.
