NEW HIGHER SALARY: $39,671 – $69,426
The Challenge
We are hiring an experienced Engineering Technician to join our Graham Engineering team.
 
In this role, you will
    • Work independently performing technical work supporting senior technicians and engineers in the administration and execution of District programs.
    • Serve as a lead technician for moderately-complex highway and structure projects associated with driveway permits, encroachment agreements, and subdivision plan approvals issued by NCDOT.
    • Conduct independent field inspections on construction operations using plans, contracts, and specifications.
    • Perform material compliance inspections.
    • Perform complex technical and math calculations.
    • Guide junior technicians on assigned tasks.
    • Perform office work, including plan reviews, permit submittals, traffic studies, project activities documentation, recording project records and maintenance of project files by hard copy and computer entry.
    • Conduct highway construction surveying and layout.
What You Bring
    • Ability to establish and maintain positive communication between technicians, engineers, contractors, and the public.  
    • Ability to apply independent decision-making and the good use of judgement.
    • Ability to document and take corrective actions and apply safety philosophy and program to all operations.
    • Ability to acquire and maintain necessary technical certifications.
    • Experience conducting independent, moderately-complex inspections with limited supervision.
    • Experience sampling and testing materials to evaluate acceptance.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead coworkers on assigned tasks.
    • Skills evaluating and applying engineering judgment to construction plans, contract provisions, and inspection procedures.
    • Experience maintaining neat, legible, and accurate records and reports, including computer/iPad entry.
    • Strength to lift 40 to 50 pounds.
    • Fitness to work in high traffic areas, at heights over water or traffic, and in extreme temperatures.
    • Agility to traverse uneven terrain.
    • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
    • Safety toe footwear.
    • Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays and extended hours, as necessary
Education & Experience
    • Associates Degree in Civil Engineering, Survey Technology, or a related discipline, and
    • 2+ years of engineering technician experience, or
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
