The Challenge
We are hiring an experienced Engineering Technician to join our Graham Engineering team.
In this role, you will
Work independently performing technical work supporting senior technicians and engineers in the administration and execution of District programs.
Serve as a lead technician for moderately-complex highway and structure projects associated with driveway permits, encroachment agreements, and subdivision plan approvals issued by NCDOT.
Conduct independent field inspections on construction operations using plans, contracts, and specifications.
Perform material compliance inspections.
Perform complex technical and math calculations.
Guide junior technicians on assigned tasks.
Perform office work, including plan reviews, permit submittals, traffic studies, project activities documentation, recording project records and maintenance of project files by hard copy and computer entry.
Conduct highway construction surveying and layout.

Ability to establish and maintain positive communication between technicians, engineers, contractors, and the public.

Ability to document and take corrective actions and apply safety philosophy and program to all operations.
Ability to acquire and maintain necessary technical certifications.
Experience conducting independent, moderately-complex inspections with limited supervision.
Experience sampling and testing materials to evaluate acceptance.
Demonstrated ability to lead coworkers on assigned tasks.
Skills evaluating and applying engineering judgment to construction plans, contract provisions, and inspection procedures.
Experience maintaining neat, legible, and accurate records and reports, including computer/iPad entry.
Strength to lift 40 to 50 pounds.
Fitness to work in high traffic areas, at heights over water or traffic, and in extreme temperatures.
Agility to traverse uneven terrain.
Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
Safety toe footwear.
Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays and extended hours, as necessary
Education & Experience
Associates Degree in Civil Engineering, Survey Technology, or a related discipline, and
2+ years of engineering technician experience, or
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
