About the role
We are expanding our product line up fast, and this role offers a great opportunity to be involved in developing the electronics platform that supports a range of different products from the ground up. We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead our Electronics team, bringing significant expertise in architecting modular electronic and software designs. You’ll need to be hands on enough to understand the technical detail but also be comfortable managing a growing team and interacting across the commercial business.
This role will lead a small and growing team of multi-disciplined engineers to develop and deliver the electronics architecture for our products. You’ll help to grow the team over the next 12 months, taking an active role in recruitment, onboarding and development of new and existing team members.
What you’ll do:
- Reporting to the CTO, you will manage a multi-disciplined team that includes system integration, electronic hardware, embedded software, powertrain and battery design resource.
- Work as part of the senior management team and act as a discipline authority to develop a technology roadmap, developing product specific feature stacks that can be delivered within a set time and cost.
- Drive the development of the teams capability through setting and reviewing of individual goals, and through support of the companies personal development scheme.
- Plan, estimate and manage development activities to ensure delivery of the electrical deliverables for each product development.
- Plan, estimate and manage development activities for the Customer and Engineering mobile applications.
- Support supplier development and selection, including advising the business on which parts of the electrical system should be developed in house and which should be outsourced.
- Present at a board level to ensure that the business is kept informed on departmental progress as well as future plans and how they fit within the businesses wider goals.
- Support the Quality Department with electrical and software issues reported both internally by production and service, and by the end users.
- Create training for both internal staff and external customers on best use and maintenance of the products electrical systems, and how to fault find them.
What you’ll bring:
- Experience managing multidisciplinary teams
- Significant experience architecting modular electronic and software designs that can be expanded over time
- Experience with electromobility electronics and powertrain
- Knowledge of ECAD tools, specifically Altium Designer
- Knowledge of RF design and Bluetooth communications protocol
- Knowledge of mobile application development process
- Knowledge of EN 17128
- Experience of the full product development process from cradle to grave
- Though not essential the ability to understand and/or speak Mandarin would be an advantage
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to converse confidently with senior executives as well as a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
- Comfortable with ambiguity and working in a fast-paced, scaling RDD team. We’re often building the processes as we deliver so you’ll need to be able to help shape the future rather than expect things to be all set up!
