Full-Time Director of Revenue

Job Description

Cooley is seeking a Director of Revenue to join the Finance and Accounting team and lead the collections function at the firm.

 

Position summary:  The Director of Revenue is responsible for the overall management of the global collections groups within the firm.  The Director of Revenue is responsible for the overall leadership, development, motivation, and execution of the revenue functions for the firm.  The position requires both professional communication skills and management duties, such as supervising, reviewing, or counseling direct (and indirect) reports within the collection groups.  Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

Position responsibilities:

 

Leadership:

  • Direct the global collections groups across multiple offices throughout the firm
  • Provide guidance and solutions to problems that arise within and across the group
  • Develop best policies and procedures for the groups to maximize their members and firm resources
  • Analyze the group to ensure they are performing in an efficient manner

 

Inventory management:

  • Perform monthly meetings with each group member, supervisors or managers to ensure proper inventory management
  • Provide in-depth analysis and narratives around monthly collections activities
  • Conduct meetings with partners or practice group members to manage any inventory concerns or aging
  • Monitor the suspense accounts and ensure the bankruptcy policies and client accounts are reviewed with the firm’s bankruptcy Partner
  • Evaluate and direct the monthly electronic distribution of inventory reports
  • Evaluate and understand the monthly proforma distributions process
  • Uphold firm policies and ensure the group is adhering to them (including write-offs, holds, etc.)
  • Manage significant or important client account relationships, as needed
  • Work closely with the billing group to ensure both groups are communicating and collaborating effectively

 

Budgeting and forecasting:

  • Implement processes within the collections group to ensure the monthly budgets and annual budgets are achievable
  • Understand the revenue budgeting cycles and direct the year-end revenue forecast models
  • Develop a forecasting process within the department for account collections
  • Assist with the annual revenue models, if needed, and work with the Global Chief Operating & Financial Officer or Director of Budgeting in finalizing revenue budgets
  • Strategically organize and manage the group’s progress during the annual year-end billing and collections push

 

Management and oversight:

  • Responsible for management of group workflow to ensure timely and accurate deliverables and responses to both internal and external stakeholders
  • Work with various members of the IS department and accounting and finance department on the development and improvement of system capabilities
  • Demonstrate an understanding of electronic billing and help ensure that it continues to be managed properly
  • Serve as direct supervisor and mentor to direct reports
  • Provide day-to-day supervision of direct reports, ensure compliance with assigned work hours and monitor for compliance with all firm and department policies. Manage staffing coverage, review and process time logs/time off requests
  • Support staff development and continued educational opportunities
  • In collaboration with immediate supervisor and CN HR, participate in hiring, performance appraisals, counseling, termination and other employee lifecycle events

 

Additional duties:

  • Work with the Global Chief Operating & Financial Officer as well as the Director of Global Accounting and Finance to prepare special analyses and ad hoc reports
  • Other duties as assigned or required

 

Skills and experience:

Required:

  • After orientation at Cooley LLP, exhibit proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, iManage and other firm applications
  • Ability to work extended and/or weekend hours, as required
  • Ability to travel, as required
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Accounting/Finance
  • 10+ direct years’ experience in a comparable role (e.g., accounting and collections) at a management level
  • Ability to understand foreign currencies
  • Understanding of VAT rules and concepts regarding billing and collections
  • Proven track record of performing elevated responsibilities within the current role providing intrinsic leadership & strategic direction to team

 

Preferred:

  • Advanced degree strongly preferred
  • Supervisory management experience
  • Prior law firm experience
  • Knowledge of various electronic billing softwares
  • Working knowledge of Elite 3E

The range for this position is $225,000 – $300,000 annually. Please note that final offer amount will be dependent on location, experience and skillset of the candidate.

  • Other compensation may include an annual discretionary merit bonus.
