In the 2022 fiscal year, UW Medicine Advancement raised $284 million in gifts and private grants (46 percent of the University of Washington’s total) from nearly 14,000 donors to support the mission of UW Medicine.

The Director for Faculty and Clinician Engagement will develop strategy and lead the implementation of the faculty and clinician engagement program for the purpose of raising philanthropic support for UW Medicine. The Director oversees many different elements of the program including the development of program goals and curriculum, program execution, and the establishment of metrics and measurables. The intent of these activities is to enhance awareness and engagement in philanthropy across the UW Medicine enterprise which is intended to lead to increased participation in fundraising activities with enhanced outcomes in patient-based fundraising.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Faculty and Clinician Engagement Program Implementation:

  • In collaboration with the Assistant Vice President, Health System Philanthropy, and the Assistant Vice President, Strategic Planning, Operations and Engagement, work to expand the number of faculty/clinician partners while ensuring the most ethical, compliant, and effective best practices are shared with our faculty.
  • Facilitate key stakeholder groups to develop curriculum, communications and other tools needed to foster deeper relationships with Advancement for the purpose of family and patient fundraising.
  • Design, develop and deploy toolkits across UW Medicine for fundraisers, volunteers, and faculty to equip them with the background and knowledge to lead engagement efforts at all levels of the organization.
  • Develop executive level metrics and tracking to effectively communicate ROI and impact from faculty and clinician engagement.
  • Determine and execute program marketing and communications strategy to increase awareness and participation.
  • Work with Advancement partners to create philanthropic awareness campaign for clinicians, patients, and other non-clinical members of the workforce.

    Engagement Program Strategy Development:

  • Set vision of overall engagement strategy for the education and training of UW Medicine faculty and clinicians as it relates to partnering with Advancement.
  • Create impact outcomes and ROI metrics for the program and develop reporting tactics.
  • Perpetuate an internal culture of philanthropy where faculty members and clinicians understand the importance of Advancement and the role they play. Work with leadership across UW Medicine to create approaches that enhance participation and awareness in philanthropy. In partnership with department and health system leadership, drive new initiatives forward across the system.
  • Work with frontline fundraisers to determine gaps and barriers to faculty engagement and clinically focused fundraising initiatives and determine how best to address those challenges with actionable plans.
  • Lead engagement stakeholder groups and develop committee objectives and participatory guidelines. Stakeholder groups include executive committee, advisory board and clinician champion cohorts.
  • Identify impactful opportunities to incentivize philanthropic engagement and participation in clinical fundraising for faculty and clinicians. Work with the Medicine department and health system leadership to deploy identified opportunities.

    Curriculum Development and Delivery:

  • Develop interactive training program that is appropriate for different audiences including fundraising staff, administrative leadership, and clinicians.
  • Create specific and measurable training goals and desired outcomes and deploy to ensure that all trainings are meeting objectives.
  • Implement a training calendar that maximizes annual participation and includes knowledge growth targets for training audiences.
  • In conjunction with stakeholders, determine training cohorts and appropriate training methods and frequency to maximize strategic delivery and outcomes.

    Compass Program:

  • Partner with Assistant Director of Member Benefits and Recognition to provide strategic leadership for UW Medicine’s Compass program, a stewardship program launched in 2017 to thank our most generous philanthropic supporters and help guide them to services at UW Medicine.
  • Ensure program is meeting objectives and operating in a manner that meets engagement and fundraising goals of the organization. Serve as the lead for compliance questions and HIPAA protocols.
  • Guide the work of Compass team members and provide support and strategic leadership for future growth initiatives.
  • Ensure that program is compliant with HIPAA and UW Medicine guidelines.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA/BS in liberal arts, business, or science.
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in training development and implementation or related field.
  • Proven experience managing complex and diverse activities with a track record in at least one of the following: organizational development, marketing, public relations, membership services, and donor engagement.
  • Must show a proven ability to create, implement, and manage new programs and an ability to discreetly handle confidential information about donors and volunteers.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver training to diverse audiences.
  • Experience building curriculum accounting for different learning styles and levels of initial knowledge preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and customer service orientation. Poised, professional manner and the ability to communicate clearly, directly and empathetically in all interactions: verbal and written communications, one-on-one conversations and in groups, etc.
  • Demonstrated creativity, organizational ability, empathy and strong attention to detail. Ability to make decisions in ambiguous situations, exercise good judgment based on information and analysis in a fast-paced, dynamic, deadline-driven environment in an organized and professional manner.
  • Fluency with Microsoft Office applications.

    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advancement experience in a health care or higher education setting.
  • Fluency with Microsoft Access and/or other relational databases.
