JOB FAMILY DESCRIPTION

The Data Scientist III will be working on data science applications that utilize a Big Data Platform (Spark) to provide an industrial strength, cutting-edge virtua l analytics lab where clients can source data, execute queries, create advanced analytics and machine-learning models in real time.

Responsible for using a variety of data mining/data analysis methods, using a variety of data tools, building and implementing analytic and machine learning models, using/creating algorithms and creating/running simulations. Use a flexible, analytical approach to design, develop, and evaluate predictive models and advanced algorithms that lead to optimal value extraction from the data. Drives business results with data-based insights and discovers solutions hidden in large data sets improve business outcomes.

GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops analytics and machine learning models applications utilizing languages such Java, Python or others.
  • Works with deep learning frameworks and Apache Spark.
  • Assesses the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques.
  • Develops custom data models and algorithms to apply to data sets.
  • Develops a testing framework and test model quality.
  • Coordinates with different functional teams to implement models and monitor outcomes.
  • Develops processes and tools to monitor and analyze model performance and data accuracy.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

EDUCATIONAL GUIDELINES
Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Finance or the equivalent combination of education, training, or work experience.

Master’s degree or PHD in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or another quantitative field is strongly preferred.

GENERAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Solid experience in large data analysis using Apache Spark
  • Experience in machine learning, and deep learning relevant frameworks such as such as MLLib, PyTorch, Keras, Tensorflow, Scikit-learn, Pandas, SageMaker, MatplotLib
  • Solid understanding of Microservices architecture and deployments desired
  • Experience with AWS or other cloud-based tools and technologies for data pipelining, model development and deployment Data cleansing and preparation techniques for analytics and machine learning desired
  • Experience using computer languages (Java, Python, SQL, etc.) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets
  • Experience working with and creating data architectures
  • Knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques (clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks, etc.) and their real-world advantages/drawbacks
  • Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts (regression, properties of distributions, statistical tests and proper usage, etc.) and experience with applications
  • Experience manipulating data sets and building statistical and machine learning models
  • Experience creating and using advanced machine learning algorithms
  • Experience with additional distributed data/computing tools: Map/Reduce, Hadoop, Hive, Spark, MySQL, etc. a plus
  • Experience visualizing/presenting data for stakeholders using: Tableau, PowerBI or other similar tools a plus
  • Strong problem solving skills with an emphasis on product development
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating across teams

Works on varied, complex projects that require in-depth skill in multiple technical environments and multiple business units. Works on multiple concurrent projects as a project team member or frequently as a project lead. May coach and/or mentor more junior technical staff. Typically requires eight (8) or more years of related work experience in developing mathematical formulas, algorithms and computer pro grams to create complex models of market trends and risks.
