Job Description
DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manages single discipline staff engaged in various current product reliability engineering assignments and projects.
• Applies advanced knowledge of statistical tools and warranty databases to analyze existing component or system reliability, report the reliability per the customer’s reporting requirements, and provide interpretation of the results.
• Applies advanced knowledge to assigned areas and products to provide reliability comparisons and assessments across the Cummins product range and identify and report adverse or favorable trends in current product reliability.
• Applies advanced knowledge of statistical and life data analysis techniques to statistically quantify the reliability impact of design change.
• Manages the development of related tools and methods in order to quantify and improve product reliability.
• Works with current product problem solving teams as well as finance and marketing functions.

Skills
• Product Failure Reporting and Corrective/Preventive Action Systems – Defines and leads a process to record, prioritize, and resolve product failures using cross-functional reviews, rigorous problem solving methods, failed parts transfer processes, data management tools, and project management practices to effectively and efficiently improve the reliability of the product.
• Product Reliability and Reliability Risk Management – Plans and manages critical reliability activities during new product development by preventing failures before hardware, detecting failures before the customer does, and improving products before production in order to release a reliable and durable product; evaluates key technical and program measures to assess the launch readiness of a new product using prescribed indicators, measures, risk scales and methods of tracking to focus attention on metrics to reduce risk and improve reliability.
• Quantitative Reliability Analysis – Analyzes failure data from existing and/or new products by establishing failure rate models for use in assessing the feasibility of meeting reliability targets, comparing the reliability of product alternatives, estimating reliability and product coverage costs, identifying emerging issues, or verifying that improvements implemented have had the desired reliability improvement.
• Reliability Test Planning – Develops and analyzes a test plan acknowledging the relationship among reliability, sample size, distribution parameters and confidence; develops system level reliability test plan by considering schedule, number of units, applications, noises, and locations to find unknown failure modes to improve reliability; creates an accelerated test plan by increased use, overstress testing, or combining multiple stresses to build and extrapolate a model to estimate reliability under normal use conditions.
Education, Licenses, Certifications
• PhD, Masters of Science, Bachelor of Science, or equivalent technical degree required.
• This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Experience
• Substantial relevant work experience required, including leadership of a small technical group.
• Coaches and mentors global reliability team in the reliability data translation to stakeholders in quality, finance, engineering, and line of business. Sets workplan and development objectives for global teams, including China and India reliability departments. Developing reliability experts to effectively support and advise with various non quality functional areas.
• Creates the right environment,enables people to achieve their full potentials, coaches and manages team talent for success. Coaches team in how to supports their position with facts and examples.
• Achieves global alignment on the critical strategic issues among various worldwide cross functional and customer teams. Provides global visibility on the issues and their inference on specific markets and applications worldwide. Engages with multiple cross BU functions to mitigate and minimize the warranty and field action financial risk to overall Cummins finances. Accountable to influence and convince key stakeholders for the most effective appropriation of company money as it applies to emissions exposure, warranty campaigns and VPI programs.
• Accountable for CTT CARB and EPA monitoring and works with external parties, like EBU and PC&RA teams to forecast financial exposures and authorize field actions proposals. Leads segmentation work and provides direction to the CTT, CBU, and CMI teams about the best course of actions to reduce financial exposures.
• Provides key inputs to external warranty and finance teams for the quarterly change in estimates process for OEM customers.
• Extensively analyze complex issues by using and modifying existing reliability and risk analysis tools
• Supports PPS teams in 7step process, fix validation, and measures effectiveness of PPS projects.
• Leads and manages analytics projects and improvements utilizing resources within and outside of the team to promote business intelligence technology and improve team efficiency.
