About the position

Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communication, the Communication Specialist is responsible for implementing communications and marketing efforts to support strategic priorities and build brand loyalty and recognition. This includes developing, adapting and executing on digital communication strategies, creating communications for diverse audiences through multiple channels. The Communication Specialist contributes to cross-functional team goals and tracks metrics to improve results.

 

About you

You are a marketing and communication professional who is passionate about using your talents for good in this world. You have an excellent grasp on data-driven decision making in digital and social media marketing. You use that data to adjust the sails for forecasting, copy and even the channels and tools used to get the best possible results. You’re an excellent writer and editor who understands AP-style.

Your background may include a few years working for a public relations agency, a nonprofit organization, or higher education. You’re ready for a fast-paced, cutting edge organization that is dedicated to eliminating racial inequities. You feel just as comfortable being a self-starter as a team player.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Social media

  • Develop and execute an adaptive and engaging social media strategy, sharing content daily from StriveTogether’s channels, developing social media campaigns for key organizational efforts and monitoring metrics to improve strategies
  • Create resources and strategies for team, board, event attendees and network members to promote announcements and engage at events
  • Help manage CEO’s LinkedIn and Twitter in contribution to organizational thought leadership goals

 

Email

  • Develop and adapt an email strategy to communicate effectively with the Network, the field, investors and other audiences, monitoring metrics in MailChimp to inform adjustments
  • Schedule, curate, write, edit, design, send and track metrics for all organizational emails
  • Update newsletter format, design and schedule to respond to emerging needs
  • Maintain contact lists in MailChimp to ensure accurate segmentation

 

Website

  • Maintain website, including creating pages for new content and updating existing features
  • Track key conversions using Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager
  • Establish process for backend WordPress updates and update site as needed

 

Editorial

  • Maintain editorial style guide, equipping StriveTogether team members and external consultants to adhere to brand guidelines
  • Edit marketing and learning materials to ensure adherence to editorial style
  • Write annual report stories, blogs, executive summaries and synopses for case studies, and more

 

Cradle to Career Network Convening

  • Communication support for the convening, including email, social media, web and in-person components
  • Create communication resources for network members, StriveTogether staff and attendees to engage with the event
  • Manage learning distribution after the convening, including sharing insights by email and social media and posting materials on StriveTogether’s website and YouTube channel

 

Team and network support

  • Consult with Network Advancement team to promote network offerings through the most effective methods and platforms
  • Strategize with Learning and Activation team to review learning shared with the Network, adapt learning for the field and promote learning on multiple channels
  • Provide communication support to network members, including responding to editorial, branding and graphics requests and providing coaching on digital communication strategies

Position Details
The salary range for this position is $41,000- $60,000. StriveTogether offers competitive salaries and benefits, commensurate with experience and skills. This position is for a full-time, exempt employee.  Due to COVID-19, staff are currently working remotely and plan to return to the office in September 2021. This position will work out of StriveTogether’s Cincinnati office or our Chicago office.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing/communications, English, journalism or public relations or two to four years’ relevant experience in communications/marketing.
  • Demonstrated passion for StriveTogether’s mission and values exemplified through work experience, leadership opportunities or community involvement.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a versatile writing style and a superior command of English grammar, punctuation and spelling.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex content into accessible, concise and logically organized communications for multiple audiences.
  • Experience with journalistic writing, a demonstrated news sense and some knowledge of AP style.
  • Outstanding collaboration and interpersonal skills, particularly in soliciting and incorporating critique and feedback from multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong experience creating engaging content for digital and social media working with content management and email distribution systems including WordPress and MailChimp.
  • Experience with communication, marketing and list-building tools.
  • Ability to follow strict deadlines and fact-check information in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be self-starter with the ability to work independently and have great follow-through on projects.
  • Adept at completing workload and delivering results within assigned timeframes, with proven success managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Detail-oriented, flexible, highly responsive and organized work style.
  • Excellent time management, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud Suite: InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills: Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
