Full-Time Civil Engineer
Job Description
The Engineering Division of the City of Oshkosh Department of Public Works is searching for a Civil Engineer. This is a progressive position allowing for advancement based on experience, knowledge, and demonstrated abilities. There are three (3) levels of Engineers, and the placement of candidates upon hire will be dependent on experience.
The Engineer position requires knowledge and understanding of municipal civil engineering principles and practices in three general categories: transportation, storm water and utilities. Work involves, but is not limited to, design and preparation of construction plans and specifications, technical drafting, review of submitted plans and specifications for conformance City of Oshkosh standards, approval of right of way permits, functioning as Project Engineer on various public works projects, and coordination and communication with engineering staff, private utilities and the general public. Assignments afford some opportunity for independent judgment in planning work or in making technical decisions. This position works in cooperation with staff and may serve as a lead person over other various staff.
Current programing needs are expected to include an Engineer with proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D and street pavement design.
The entry level Civil Engineer will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited school and possess a valid driver’s license upon employment.
The mid-level Civil Engineer will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited school, 2-4 years of related experience, and possess a valid driver’s license upon employment.
The Principal Civil Engineer will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited school, four or more years of related municipal engineering experience which includes preparation and/or review of complex, comprehensive system plans. Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Wisconsin is preferred. Candidates are also required to possess a valid driver’s license upon employment.
