Full-Time Chief Executive Officer

Ontario Association of Children’s Aid Societies – Posted by OdgersBerndtson Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Job Description

For over 100 years, the Ontario Association of Children’s Aid Societies (OACAS) has been enhancing and promoting the welfare and well-being of children, youth, and families in Ontario. Representing the voices of the child welfare sector and supporting provincial priorities, OACAS is a membership organization of 49 members organizations and that is governed by a voluntary board of directors who works with member agencies, communities, and government to bring positive change to child welfare services and the children services system as a whole. On behalf of their membership, OACAS provides advocacy and government relations, public education, training, information and knowledge management, and communications services.

OACAS is seeking a reputable individual as their next CEO who will demonstrate authenticity, humility, integrity and has proven their commitment to the work of equity and truth and reconciliation to ensure that all children, youth, and families are at the centre of all decision making. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors of the OACAS, they will lead an organization of approximately 60 highly talented and dedicated staff. The CEO will provide strong strategic and visionary leadership and hold the overall strategic and operational accountability for OACAS’ staff, programs, fiscal management and broader child welfare system leadership. They will work with sector leaders across the province to embed principles of equity, inclusion, diversity, anti-oppression, and anti-racism within the child welfare system.

The ideal candidate will be a transformative systems leader. The ability to lead through a balanced approach will be critical in achieving realistic and tangible outcomes for OACAS. With a servant leadership style and strong emotional intelligence, they understand how to prioritize the teams’ well-being, listen empathetically, influence across stakeholder groups, and selflessly serve an organization to facilitate their success. Qualifications include progressive experience in an executive leadership role, with demonstrated lived or professional achievement in navigating and leading complex system change within child welfare or the social service/public sector. They will also hold a university degree in social work, social sciences, education, business, Indigenous studies, public health or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. Bilingualism in French and English is considered an asset.
