Full-Time Assistant Teaching Professor

Job Description

The Department of Health Systems and Population Health in the School of Public Health at the University of Washington (UW) invites applications for one faculty position at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor (this position/track is not eligible for tenure). This is a full-time (100% FTE), 12-month service period position with an anticipated start date of Fall 2023.  Salary is commensurate with experience and level of appointment.

All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, service, and research/scholarship. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to:

(a) Teach approximately 6-8 courses per year (quarter system), primarily in the Master of Health Administration (MHA) program.  Areas of teaching emphasis may include national or international health systems, healthcare management, health policy, law, strategy, finance, informatics, statistical analysis, and ethics.

(b) Contribute to the department and school’s commitment to anti-racism by using innovative pedagogical approaches, centering equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in the classroom, and teaching about health equity and approaches to promote health in BIPOC populations though an anti-racism lens.

(c) Contribute to the departmental community by engaging in seminars, outreach activities and mentoring students.

(d) Participate in scholarship that centers on innovative and inclusive teaching and mentoring approaches at the national level.

(e) Play an active role in Department, School and University leadership, for example, by engaging in governance, serving on key committees (e.g., program admissions committees, departmental Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion committee) and helping to continually update educational vision and strategy.

In addition, the successful candidate would be expected to participate in activities that support and advance the department’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), as well as regularly participate in University, School, Department, and Program activities such as engaging in governance, leading seminars, guest speaking, orientation(s), program and department faculty meetings, serving on key committees, mentoring and providing career development for diverse professionals and students, helping to continually update educational vision and strategy, graduation ceremonies, and relevant academic activities in the Department.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a master’s degree in Health or Business Administration, Health Management, Health Economics, Health Policy, Health Informatics, Public Health, Systems Engineering or related discipline (or foreign equivalent) and must have demonstrated excellence in teaching at post-secondary level.

Positive factors for consideration for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • 2 to 3 years of teaching experience
  • DrPH or PhD in a related discipline
