Salary: £30,684 to £32,563
Hybrid working (50/50)
Fixed Term Contract Until 31st March 2026 and Full-Time (37 hours a week)

You will be working in our Programme Office with a small and dedicated team of three project managers, giving you the opportunity to get close to different scientific disciplines, working on important international projects in Sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, and other parts of the world.

 

As part of our Water Resources Systems Group, you’ll be supporting the delivery of one of UKCEH’s largest programmes on progressing and promoting international science on Net Zero Plus and enhancing the position of UK science globally. The project is funded by UKRI NERC’s National Capability.

 

The Programme Office has established a planning and reporting process, a governance structure, and a schedule of programme activities to enhance cohesion across the programme and within UKCEH. We need your skills to help us maintain our high standard of service and project management. As a core part of our team, you’ll be supporting these activities alongside day-to-day administration.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting various levels of reporting: collecting, collating, and tracking specified data, undertaking basic analytics using MS 365 tools, and occasionally collating information for internal/external communication materials
  • Supporting and facilitating successful meetings, including as part of the secretariat to the Programme Board: managing meeting logistics, meeting papers, capturing decisions and actions and proactively tracking actions progress
  • Undertaking routine administration: managing documentation, monitoring and managing the programme inbox and diary management
  • Liaising across the programme and corporate teams to coordinate activities and supporting requests/queries
  • Organising workshops and events, together with associated travel and accommodation, to a high standard and within defined budgets
  • Supporting finance activities: procurement and running finance reports
  • Developing, maintaining, and following standard operating procedures

 

For the role of Assistant Science Project Manager we’re looking for somebody who has:

  • A foundation-level professional certification in PRINCE2/PRINCE2 Agile, APM Project Fundamentals Qualification (PFQ) or a minimum of an undergraduate degree (2.1 or above) in environmental, physical, or biological sciences or relevant experience
  • General knowledge of project management methodologies, with some experience in supporting projects of varying complexity
  • Numerate, with experience of supporting management of project finances, with good IT skills (Microsoft Office 365: Excel, Outlook, Word, Teams etc.)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to communicate with a broad range of stakeholders, building rapport across various teams and departments
  • The ability to collate/condense information for reports or papers
  • The ability to work independently and manage time effectively, to deliver long and short-term tasks to agreed deadlines
  • Ability to take a methodical approach to routine tasks and achieve a high level of accuracy; possessing an eye for detail and recognising when high quality outputs are required
  • Enthusiasm to learn new approaches and skills as the need arises
  • Interest in finding the right solution to improve processes where possible
  • A willingness to travel within the UK (short trips of up to 3 nights away at a time)

 

Desirable:

  • A willingness to travel internationally, for meetings and conferences of short duration, and be keen to work as part of a cohesive team
  • Experience of using SharePoint
  • Experience of using Workday
