Temporary, full-time position (from December 12, 2022, to July 31, 2024) – Guelph, ON

This role is an opportunity to join a high-performing team of passionate fundraising and engagement professionals in Alumni Affairs and Development at one of Canada’s leading comprehensive research-intensive universities.

As Alumni Engagement Manager, Students and Young Alumni, you’ll be a member of this campus-wide team and, as such, epitomize the department’s shared values of respect, empowerment, integrity, appreciation, and forward focus. An experienced engagement professional, you’ll continue building and enhancing the journey of students as they become alumni and strengthen the connection of recent grads to the University.

Reporting to the Associate Director, Alumni Advancement, you’ll align recent grads with U of G’s priorities through volunteer opportunities and, as an expert in student and alumni engagement, you’ll contribute to strategic mass engagement and fundraising opportunities, in collaboration with key directorates in AA&D that support long-term pipeline growth. More specifically, as an Alumni Engagement Manager focused on Students and Young Alumni, you’ll:

  • Develop and implement annual plans designed to engage students and young alumni in the life of the University;
  • Achieve revenue targets through the active solicitation of sponsors to support program events and activities;
  • Implement strategic volunteer engagement plans, including work with alumni associations, boards and committees;
  • Work with key staff in AA&D to develop effective communication strategies aimed at keeping alumni and friends informed of activities of interest;
  • Collaborate widely with colleagues in student-facing units, as well as those in AA&D events, communications, and annual giving, to deliver engaging programming that appeals to recent grads;
  • Serve as the main AA&D point of contact with student government/organizations to support their philanthropic giving and create connections to alumni.

REQUIREMENTS

To assume the role of Alumni Engagement Manager, Students and Young Alumni, you should be a results-oriented, skilled relationship builder with a profile that includes:

  • An undergraduate degree and a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in alumni relations, event coordination and planning, fundraising and/or non-profit management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Experience securing gifts or sponsorships through a variety of methods (desired);
  • Superior interpersonal skills, with a strong interest and proven skill in effectively connecting and communicating with people and building and nurturing relationships;
  • A strong record of volunteer and program management, and the demonstrated ability to conceptualize, analyze, develop and coordinate programs;
  • Proficiency with computers, CRM database software, and MS Office (Word, Excel);
  • Demonstrated motivation working toward targets/goals and ability to take initiative, and think creatively and with an entrepreneurial mindset;
  • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills and strategic-thinking ability;
  • A high level of diplomacy, tact, judgment and adaptability;
  • Experience working in a university environment (an asset).
