Full-Time Director of Accounting Operations
Job Description

We’re looking for a Director of Accounting Operations to lead and oversee a variety of functions at Warby Parker, including payroll, accounts payable, corporate credit cards, and insurance operations. What you’ll do:
- Oversee and develop a best-in-class team covering accounts payable, payroll, and insurance operations; act as a point of escalation for the Accounting team
- Set the strategy for your teams; evaluate the use of technology to create strategic alignment with cross-functional business partners
- Approve, supervise, and review company-wide payments and optimize cash flows across multiple financial institutions
- Direct all payroll processing and reporting in accordance with federal, state, and local tax laws as well as corporate policies and procedures
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements; manage and research 1099 reporting, W2 reporting, and other relevant regulatory requirements
- Own T&E policy and monitor compliance
- Oversee monthly closing of financial records and posting month-end information in accordance with US GAAP; ensure the completeness and accuracy for accounts payable, payroll, and insurance
- Define meaningful team-wide KPIs; develop dashboards and analytics to measure and improve performance; report to management on a weekly/monthly basis
- Contribute to the compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act through the documentation and implementation of controls and processes related to the payroll process, bad debt expense and insurance collectibility, and full procure-to-pay process including vendor maintenance
- Drive team engagement through strong leadership principles and practices
- Develop and retain staff by recruiting and training employees; manage team performance through goal setting, coaching, developing, planning, monitoring, and performing quarterly reviews
Who you are:
- Backed by 8–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including experience building scalable operations in a shared services role (or similar position) at a high-growth company
- Able to successfully establish scalable shared services infrastructure—and have the track record to prove it!
- The proud owner of a Bachelor of Science in accounting or finance
- A first-rate Excel expert
- Eager to work in a fast-paced environment
- Consistently looking for new and innovative ways to work
- Super serious about your work (without taking yourself too seriously)
- A highly collaborative and communicative team player and self-starter who’s willing to roll up your sleeves and get the job done
- Highly organized and detail-oriented (improving and documenting processes is )
- A dexterous multitasker who can prioritize several projects without losing focus
- Ready to offer support whenever needed
- Positive, kind, and excited by a challenge
Extra credit:
- NetSuite, Coupa, and ADP experience
- Knowledge of Excel and Google Suite Applications
