Job Description

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Consultant

The Waldorf School of Philadelphia is a vibrant learning community where education, based on a deep understanding of the developing child, integrates the intellectual with the artistic, the practical with the beautiful — fostering the ability to engage fully in the world.

We achieve our mission by

  • Applying the innovative educational philosophy and curriculum of Rudolf Steiner in a contemporary context
  • Upholding a standard of excellence and integrity in academics, arts, and human relationships
  • Honoring and valuing each child and their unique gifts
  • Cultivating dynamic working relationships with and among the faculty, the board, the administration and the community of families
  • Striving for cultural diversity within an urban setting, with a commitment to the importance of nature and its stewardship

The Waldorf School of Philadelphia is seeking a consultant who is an expert in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) to support our community as we take our next steps toward becoming an inclusive, diverse and diversity-responsive, anti-racist institution.

The ideal candidate:

  • is an experienced trainer and community builder
  • understands the culture of independent schools
  • is a skilled communicator adept at building rapport with diverse community members, including children
  • will commit to working with us for approximately 3-5 months, starting August, 2020

In collaboration with school leadership, tasks include:

  • Develop, conduct, analyze, and share the results of an equity inventory/climate assessment and recommend a plan of action based on the results
  • Create a job description, and help us conduct a search, for a part-time DEI Officer to join our school this fall
  • Offer trainings for and hold conversations with the community, including faculty, staff, students, parents
  • Provide strategy and accountability sessions for school leadership.

Our strong commitment to increasing and supporting diversity in all of its forms in employment and in our programs is expressed in our desire to actively seek interest from candidates currently underrepresented in Waldorf Education. People demonstrating a commitment to diversity and multiculturalism in education are encouraged to apply.
