Full-Time Program & Evaluation Lead
Job Description
Who we are
Friends of Ruby is a registered charity dedicated to the progressive well-being of LGBTQI2S youth through housing and social services. A trusted source of counselling and tangible solutions such as crisis intervention, warm meals and housing support. We offer multiple programs and support groups, including dedicated spaces for Black, Indigenous, People of Color, and Trans youth. Since 2014, Friends of Ruby’s front line workers have met with and supported over 900 youth, averting almost 500 mental health crises.
Friends of Ruby is a welcoming space for LGBTQI2S youth. We believe that every person is a gem – perfectly unique and precious – and we go above and beyond to ensure that the youth who come to our doors feel embraced, accepted and empowered with the social and wellness tools they need to thrive.
This is a mission that is a genuine part of who we are as individuals and as an organization. If you are a member of the LGBTQI2S community and/or an active ally for equality, diversity, and the needs of our community’s youth, please consider joining us as a Program & Evaluation Lead.
The opportunity
Friends of Ruby is growing rapidly as an organization, undertaking new initiatives to increase the impact and reach of our services through our Strategic initiatives Department. To support these essential and exciting projects, we are hiring a Program & Evaluation Lead.
Under the direction of the Director of Strategic Initiatives, this is an opportunity to create a framework for the evaluation of current programs and to play a critical role in structuring new programs. You will implement qualitative and quantitative data gathering, measure impacts against needs, engage stakeholders in consultation, and disseminate knowledge. This is an exciting chance to play an integral role in mobilizing research findings to make informed decisions for program development in connection with Friends of Ruby’s strategic goals and youth needs.
Who you are
You are a researcher, an evaluation specialist, a program manager, and/or a creative thought leader in knowledge mobilization, ideally in a nonprofit. You thrive in a fast paced and growing organization, and you are excited by the prospect of collaborating to harness the knowledge you gather to make a difference to the LGBTQI2S youth we serve. You have direct experience connecting with the LGBTQI2S youth sector through work, allyship, or lived experience.
What’s in it for you

Challenges and rewards. Program evaluation is a new initiative and one which will impact how we operate as an organization. You will use all of your expertise and resources to step up to the demand and ensure every program we deliver meets the needs of our youth, drawing on your research to create stories that target different communities and implement findings to facilitate the creation – and success – of our programs.

You will introduce an evidence-informed approach to conduct research, analyze trends, identify opportunities, and support the development of new or the revision of existing policies, programs, and services. You will support the leadership team with content for proposals, reports, and other documents as needed.
- Program development. You will engage with youth, community organizations, leadership, and team members to nurture collaborative relationships that facilitate the implementation of programs and collection of data related to programs, services, and partnerships.

You have 3-5 years of experience in impact measurement, evaluation, business analytics, or research for evidence-based program development in the not-for-profit sector.
- The research skills. You have hands-on experience structuring and undertaking a wide range of evaluation research projects (e.g., participatory action research, developmental evaluation).
