Job Description

Well-prepared homemade food can bring a deep sense of comfort, with familiar tastes and aromas often bringing warmth and familiarity. Each meal in our care home is thoughtfully prepared with the individual person in mind, using fresh, locally sourced ingredients alongside homemade meals prepared and frozen for later. Our kitchen ensures there is always a choice of nourishing meals available, with traditional mealtimes and the flexibility for people to eat when it suits them best.

As a Kitchen Assistant, you’ll play an important part in preparing food, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and food hygiene, assisting with stock taking, and supporting family members during mealtimes, whether that’s pouring drinks, serving food or laying the tables.

Eating meals together is the time to connect, share and socialise.  We are a household, and as with any home, we treasure the special moments we share together, moments you as a Kitchen Assistant help to create.

Support the Chef and wider kitchen team in the preparation of meals, including basic food preparation such as chopping, peeling, portioning and assisting with service.

Assist in serving meals to family members, helping to create a positive dining experience while respecting individual preferences, choices and dietary needs.

Help set and clear dining tables, maintaining a warm and homely environment at mealtimes.

Wash, dry and store kitchen equipment, utensils and pots safely and correctly, ensuring the kitchen remains organised and efficient.

Maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout the kitchen, including work surfaces, floors, appliances and food preparation areas.

Follow food hygiene, health and safety, and infection control procedures at all times, ensuring safe working practices are upheld.

Support the safe preparation and handling of specialist diets, including texture-modified meals and meals for people with allergies or swallowing difficulties.

Assist with stock rotation, stock taking and the safe storage of deliveries, checking quality, dates and correct storage procedures.

Work closely with the Head Chef in charge and wider team, communicating effectively during busy periods and reporting any concerns, faults or shortages promptly.

Contribute to a flexible household-style environment where meals, snacks and drinks are available around the routines and preferences of the people living in the home.

The Person Right for this Role
