Full-Time Pharmacy Technician
Job Description
Why this job matters: Work in collaboration with the pharmacists to create a positive member experience, assisting the pharmacist by performing duties that do not require a pharmacist’s professional judgement. What you’ll do:
- Perform a wide range of duties in support of clinical pharmacy, with a focus on optimizing patient medication adherence and closing gaps in care as required by the Medicare Part D Stars program
- Manage patient lists and perform telephonic outreach for identified members with a history of non-adherence to medications
- Review patient lists and implement a plan for outreach to patients flagged with gaps in care
- Participate in member education and retention seminars, in collaboration with pharmacists, assisting members with questions regarding their pharmacy benefits and formulary coverage
- Follow up with members and providers at the direction of a pharmacist for disease state management and coordinating open gaps in care
- Conduct medication reconciliation to ensure the pharmacist has an accurate and up to date medication list for review.
- Verify provider and pharmacy information for accuracy.
- Triage internal requests to perform comprehensive medication reviews to available pharmacists
- Respond to inquiries regarding Part D Stars and Pharmacy related programs.
- Facilitate correspondence between BCBSRI pharmacists and providers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What you need to succeed:
- High School Diploma, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Active and unrestricted Pharmacy Technician license in the State of Rhode Island or the ability to obtain a license upon employment
- Two to four years of experience as a pharmacy technician or related healthcare field.
- Knowledge of health insurance and benefits
- Must be detail oriented and able to accurately document all activities performed
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Must be able to work independently
- Professionally interact with external healthcare professionals and BCBSRI internal staff
- Must be able to travel within State of Rhode Island
- Effectively communicate the importance of medication adherence to members
The Extras:
- National Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB, CPhT)
- Experience with Medicare Part D program
- Ability to speak a second language with command of healthcare terminology, most notably Spanish or Portuguese
