The Maryland Department of Juvenile Services (DJS) is dedicated to transforming young lives, creating safer communities, and fostering equitable systems. We are seeking a passionate and dedicated RN Supervisor to lead our healthcare team and make a meaningful impact on the youth we serve.
As an RN Supervisor, you will take on a leadership role in ensuring that appropriate health services are provided to adolescents in our facility. Your work will directly impact the well-being and health of youth under our care, aligning with the Nurse Practice Act, DJS Standards, and established policies and procedures.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute in various ways, including:
- Leading, directing, and implementing health services for adolescents, ensuring top-tier care within the guidelines of nursing standards.
- Overseeing the scheduling and supervision of health care staff to maintain consistent and efficient service delivery.
- Organizing and coordinating medical clinics, applying sound nursing judgment to ensure the best health practices are followed.
- Conducting nursing assessments for newly admitted youth and administering essential tests and laboratory specimen collection.
- Reviewing health records to ensure accurate nursing diagnoses, complete lab tests, and comprehensive documentation, both electronically and on paper.
- Compiling and submitting health statistics and reports on time, ensuring compliance with established guidelines.
- Overseeing Certified Medication Technicians at the Hickey Shelter in administering medications, providing assessments, assisting with somatic clinic and healthcare of youth at the Hickey shelter.
***This is an Evening shift position with a schedule of 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM.***
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Nursing under the licensing requirements for Registered Nurses.
Experience: Three (3) years of experience as a Registered Nurse, to include one (1) year in a supervisory, administrative or teaching capacity and two (2) years in the Medical option.
Notes:
- Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a related field from an accredited college or university for one (1) year of the required general experience.
- Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master’s degree in Nursing or a health related field from an accredited college or university for two (2) years of the required general experience.
- Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Nursing classifications or Nursing and Hospital Administration specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The preferred candidate for this position should possess the following:
- One (1) year of experience providing medical services to a pediatric or adolescent population in a supervisory capacity.
- Successful completion of the Delegating Nurse/Case Manager course through the Maryland Board of Nursing.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated leadership abilities.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215 or possess a current multi-state license in party states that candidates have declared as primary states of residence.
- Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
- Employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete cardiopulmonary resuscitation training and maintain current certification.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Employees in this classification are subject to call-in and, therefore, will be required to provide the facility with a phone number at which they can be reached. 2. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
