The Challenge​​​​​​​
We are looking for an experienced Project Engineer to join our Transit team.
 
In this role you will:
    • Independently provide intermediate-level application of engineering and planning techniques in the development and implementation of Traffic Separation Studies, Crossing Consolidation and Elimination, other crossing safety projects and initiatives along the Southeast High Speed Rail Corridor (SEHSR,) and other existing freight or existing/proposed passenger railroad lines in the State.
    • Assist in the procurement and administration of grants and studies and represent our Rail division in highway scoping process by providing input on projects that may impact rail lines
    • Perform the work of junior engineers, yet be distinguished by more intermediate duties, such as writing/reviewing technical letters, reports, special provisions, contract agreements, and revisions to specifications.
    • Review and check preliminary, intermediate, and final design plans, calculations, engineering estimates, or provisions to find errors/deviations from accepted engineering practices.
    • Assure compliance with Federal/State statutes/guidelines on less complex projects.
    • Investigate and respond to complaints/requests from the public, media, and federal, state, railroad, and municipal officials.
 
What You Bring
    • Experience overseeing and managing moderately-complex transportation projects and developing/managing project scope, schedule, budget, quality, and project risks.
    • Experience leading teams to apply engineering principles to moderately-complex environmental and design situations, making sound recommendations and decisions, and providing guidance in designs.
    • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and fostering communications with senior leadership, stakeholders, citizens, and among project team members.
    • Knowledge of professional engineering contracts, professional engineering principles and practices of civil engineering related to Highway Design with an emphasis on project planning, environmental studies and analysis, project design, construction and maintenance methods, as they apply to the Project Delivery Process.
    • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel, Open Roads (CADD) and ArcGIS and drafting instruments.
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and in an organized manner, orally and in written documents/reports addressing moderately-complex engineering concepts and facts.
  
Note
    • We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
 
Education & Experience
    • Bachelors Degree in engineering, and
    • 3+ years of relevant experience; or
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
