The Challenge
We are looking for an experienced Maintenance/Construction Technician III to join our Facilities Maintenance team and help rebuild western North Carolina.
In this role, you will:
Resolve facility maintenance issues in NCDOT buildings in the 7 counties making up Division 13
Work under the direction of the Division Facility Coordinator.
Work closely with our Facility Maintenance team.
Perform facility repairs and new installations of plumbing, sewer, gas lines, sinks, tank pumps, hydrants, and water lines.
Measure, calculate, and identify materials and fixtures for different projects.
Provide technical guidance to staff engaged in semiskilled, unskilled or of skilled work.
Perform highly technical tasks independently.
Work in accordance with a schedule of needs in the institution and special repair assignments that are received by work orders from authorized staff.
Exercise initiative and judgment in the application of trade skills to a maintenance and repair problems and in determining the extent of repair or replacement work to be done.
What You Bring
Excellent knowledge of building codes.
Ability to perform journey-level in 2+ trades (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, masonry, or plastering).
Skilled work in building maintenance and repair of facilities involving multiple complex or highly-skilled trade specialties
Knowledge of plumbing systems repair and the standard practices and procedures of the plumbing trade.
Communications skills to communicate with and direct journey-level staff verbally and in writing.
Demonstrated ability to read and work on blueprints, sketches, and schematics, use measuring, pipe cutting, and threading equipment.
Demonstrated ability to work independently with little instruction or guidance.
Ability to safely drive a state vehicle.
Note
We may require you to work at other facilities as directed by our Supervisor or lead mechanic.
Unscheduled overtime may be required during emergencies.
You will be subject to emergency and after hours call backs to assist with building emergencies after hours, weekends, and holidays.
You will be expected to be present at work during bad weather.
We may require you to become certified by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician.
Education & Experience
High School/GED Diploma, and
2+ years of relevant experience in complex mechanical or building trades; or
An equivalent combination of training and experience.
