Full-Time Chief Data Officer
Job Description
The Democratic Data Exchange (DDx) is looking for a Chief Data Officer (CDO) to manage a team of Data Analysts, lead DDx’s efforts to ensure the quality and integrity of data within the Exchange,inform data models for MIG, and define and implement organization-wide data strategy.
Reporting to the Managing Director, the Chief Data Officer will be pivotal in managing and mentoring the data team, overseeing all DDx analytics and data normalization, managing and improving data quality processes, and bringing overall vision and expertise to the DDx team.
This is a hands-on role that requires direct technical contributions and occasional on-call availability (which will be scheduled in advance).

Responsibilities:
These responsibilities are the core areas of work for this role, however this role may also have additional duties as assigned and determined by business needs.
Setting and Implementing Strategy:
The CDO is an active advisor and collaborator, bringing best practices and recommendations forward while ensuring DDx continues to provide exceptional service and products.
- Advise C-Suite and senior leadership on: data trends within the industry; recommendations on organizational directional growth; and data strategy, including creating reports and generating key insights for internal team members.
- Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Client Success teams to identify opportunities for new data products and implement organization-wide data and product strategies that drive business and client value.
- Oversee all existing analytics work and work in close coordination with the Client Success team to create new opportunities to provide bespoke analysis for clients.
- Develop processes that detect potential data quality issues in DDx data and assist in remediating those errors.
- Provide in-house expertise to updates to DDx’s taxonomy and data models.
- Build brand and reputation of DDx’s data and analytics, communicating with external stakeholders regarding DDx data and tools.
- Set and monitor key metrics for the data team.
Data Analysis:
The CDO will ensure that the data team is able to:
- Use SQL, Tableau and coding languages for data manipulation and transformation; ensure documentation of code stays up-to-date using GitHub.
- Analyze complex data sets and lead the design, implementation, and delivery of DDx products and services.
- Build visualizations and derived products based on DDx data for clients and members.
- Build and lead trainings to promote innovative usages of DDx data and processes.
- Maintain and improve upon matching algorithms across voter files.
Team Management:
- Manage a team of Directors and Analysts and oversee all analysis projects for clients and other internal initiatives.
- Provide constructive feedback and support professional development opportunities. Helping staff grow is a critical expectation of DDx managers.
- Lead the data team in scoping, conducting, and providing bespoke analysis for DDx clients, including conducting code review and methodological review of data team members work.
- Managing data normalization processes and data normalization team.
Required Qualifications:
- Proven ability to analyze complex data sets and lead the design, implementation, and delivery of data products and services.
- Prior experience managing and coaching a team of data analysts.
- Advanced knowledge of building and verifying database structures, tools, and data visualizations.
- Proven experience effectively communicating technical concepts to a non-technical audience..
- Advanced proficiency in using SQL and at least one other coding language for data manipulation and transformation.
- Prior experience using data visualization tools such as Tableau or Google Data Studio.
- Experience collaborating with data and software engineers to implement work at scale.
- Past professional experience advising senior staff and external stakeholders on decisions based on analysis and data.
- Familiarity with experiment design and implementation.
Desired Qualifications:
- Strong experience with political data or equivalent experience is a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience setting and monitoring key metrics for a team.
- Adept at client management, stakeholder management, and political navigation.
- Proven ability to create accurate, effective, and polished client-facing deliverables.
Additional Requirement:
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without restriction.
Location:
- Remote position; anywhere in the US. DDx is a remote-first organization.
- While this position is remote, this role may require 10% travel. Expected travel may include in-person team gathering in one location in the United States for retreats or in-depth collaborative opportunities. This would likely require travel and overnight stays in a location outside of one’s home location, though would be scheduled in advance to account for planning.

Salary and Benefits:
DDx offers a competitive compensation salary and benefits package, including:
- Company-paid healthcare, dental, and vision insurance for full-time employees

The salary range for this position is $185,000 to $210,000.
Hiring Process Example:
While there may be shifts to the hiring process, this is the anticipated hiring process’s steps for any candidates who advance from the application stage onwards: .
- Phone Screening: A 30-minute audio-only initial interview with a team member
- First Round Interview: A 45-60-minute audio and video interview with a team member or multiple team members
- Second Round Interview/Written Prompt: A written prompt followed by a second round interview.
- Final Round Interview: A 30-60 minute audio and video interview with an executive team member.
- Request for References: This will be a request for 3 professional references, one of which should be a previous direct supervisor.
