- Operate standard hand and power tools, vehicles, and heavy equipment in the preventive maintenance, repair, and construction of roads and roadside features for the State’s highway and roadway systems.
- Conduct inspections.
- Ensure work zone safety.
- Perform snow & ice removal.
- Perform flagging and assist with maintenance/repair project completion through the use of tools and equipment, such as tractors with various attachments, curb machines, cutoff saws, dump trucks, small wheel and sheep foot rollers, vibrator roller compactors, pulverizer mixers, and pneumatic tire rollers.
- Assist paint crews.
- Erect road signs.
- Assist Electronics Technicians with signal maintenance and installation.
- Operate hand tools for sign installation and replacement.
- Run a dump truck, broom tractor, paint line removing machine, thermoplastic machine, trencher, and edge-line paint gun .
- Perform vegetation control, debris removal, move snow, drive a tractor with attachments and mower, dump, and flatbed truck.
- Assist in grass and wildflower installation and maintenance.
- Assist with carpentry, welding, steel fabrication or concrete work.
- Operate CDL-required equipment/trucks with manual and automatic transmissions within 360 days of hire.
- An interest in a career in Transportation Construction, and commitment to a safe work environment.
- Experience performing manual labor, and operating power tools such as a chainsaws, weed eaters, skill saws, drills, compactors, jackhammers, etc. or using small hand tools such as shovels, rakes, brooms, post hole diggers, hammers, screwdrivers, torches, etc.
- A Commercial Driver’s License. (If you don’t have it, still apply! You can get this after you are hired through on-the-job training within 360 days of hire.)
- Safety toe footwear.
- We will conduct a pre-employment drug and background check with previous employers for the past 3 years about controlled substances and alcohol testing.
- The role requires work during any bad weather, such as snow and/or ice, tornadoes, hurricanes, etc. that may lead to working extended daily hours, weekends, and holidays
- You will be subject to outside extreme environmental conditions and hazards at highway construction sites, including heavy equipment and highway traffic.
- High school/GED diploma; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
