Job Description

The Legal Aid Society has an opening for a Court-Based Office Administrator in the Criminal Defense Practice’s Manhattan office. The Office Administrator is responsible for the direct supervision and training of paralegal staff in arraignments and data unit. The Office Administrator also monitors paralegal performance, keeps attendance, and ensures that all work is done in a timely fashion.

The Office Administrator is also responsible for quality control of all arraignment and Law Manager data. The Office Administrator must foster and maintain relationships with court personnel and other agencies.  The Office Administrator also assists in the running of the complex, including administration and supervision of support staff, assists with the operational support of the office and staff, including maintaining expense reports, petty cash, leave accrual reports and statistical reports.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee day-to-day courthouse office operations
  • Management of day-to-day, general administrative functions
  • Monitor arraignment data entry and central files maintenance
  • Maintain office facilities and equipment
  • Liaise between internal shared services department and external service providers
  • Participate in the examination and improvement of internal procedures and computer systems
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required
  • Must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively with other managers
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to balance and prioritize a challenging workload
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Law Manager
  • Ability to initiate, design, and implement new procedures
  • Ability to respond quickly and calmly in emergencies and problem situations is essential

SALARY TRANSPARENCY

The posting reflects the range of potential salaries for the role. The specific salary offers will be dependent on candidate qualifications, including collectively bargained salary steps for unionized roles.

Salary Range/ Salary: $71,536
