Full-Time Engineering Technician III
Job Description
- Review and inspect driveway permits, encroachments, subdivisions, and roadway additions/abandonments.
- Monitor and inspect contractors performing work for NCDOT in the maintenance of guardrail and other traffic barrier systems on the state highway system.
- Monitor and inspect erosion control measures, and assist highway maintenance crews by providing technical expertise.
- Generate highway maintenance plans.
- Communicate with contractors and developers.
- Coordinate rental and purchase order agreements.
- Perform highway maintenance activities.
- Be on-call for emergencies, bad weather, and other necessary work outside of normal hours.
- Working knowledge of NCDOT standards, specifications, and procedures to ensure compliance when performing inspection duties.
- Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
- Customer service experience solving problems involving explaining complicated engineering concepts to customer groups.
- Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
- Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments.
- Computer experience using office and drafting software.
- Ability to obtain and hold certifications, including NCDOT QMS Roadway technician and NCDOT Erosion Control Level II: Site Manager.
- Ability to work safely in an outside environment with exposure to hazards including highway traffic, extreme weather, and traversing rough terrain.
- Fitness to perform moderate physical activity, including walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, and standing.
- Strength to lift 50 pounds.
- Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline, and
- 3+ years of technician experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
