Full-Time Engineering Technician II
Job Description
- Perform on-site inspections for compliance with NCDOT standards for driveway connection construction, encroachment installation, and subdivision street construction.
- Monitor illegal use of highway right-of-way for signs, utilities, and private activities.
- Assist in collecting field data for the review of driveway permits, site plans, utility and non-utility encroachment agreements, subdivision plans, and road additions/abandonments.
- Meet with utility representatives, contractors, property owners, and others to discuss adherence to policies/procedures and to answer questions.
- Address complaints from the public by phone, written correspondence, and in person.
- Operate a computer to prepare documents and maintain databases.
- Assist our Division during emergencies and bad weather.
- Assist our District Engineer with tasks.
- Experience conducting independent, moderately-complex inspections with limited supervision.
- Good engineering judgment to assess construction plans, contract provisions, and inspection procedures.
- Experience maintaining neat, legible, and accurate records and reports, including computer/iPad data entry.
- General knowledge of surveying.
- Computer experience using apps on iPads and computers.
- Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related field, and
- 2+ years relevant technician-level experience; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
