Job Description
- Serve as a lead project inspector and support senior engineers in the administration of medium to large highway construction projects.
- Monitor daily project progress and resolve constructability issues to maintain project schedules.
- Direct and schedule technicians in staking out and inspecting every phase of a construction project to ensure it is built according to plans and specifications in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Manage all aspects of assigned construction projects with limited supervision from senior engineers.
- Supervise and train multiple technicians, including NCDOT staff and contract inspectors.
- Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
- Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments.
- Customer service experience related to resolving problems involving explaining complicated engineering concepts to customer groups.
- Experience analyzing and interpreting highway construction plans.
- Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive communication between other technicians, engineers, contractors, and the public.
- Ability to apply independent decision making and good engineering judgement.
- Ability to document and take corrective actions.
- You apply a safety philosophy and program to all operations.
- Ability to complete daily diaries, survey notes, and other record keeping items manually and electronically.
- Ability to perform construction related math calculations.
- Ability to acquire certifications, including QMS Asphalt, Concrete Testing, Borrow Pit Sampling, and MSHA Certifications.
- Strength to lift 40 to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in high traffic areas, at heights over water or traffic, and in extreme temperatures.
- Agility to traverse uneven terrain.
- Ability to work during nights and weekends, if necessary.
- Safety toe shoes.
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
- Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related field, and
- 3+ years relevant technician-level experience; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
- You may be required to work nights, weekends, holidays, and for extended hours, as necessary.
