Job Description
- Do preventive maintenance, repair, and construction of State-maintained roads and roadside features.
- Install traffic & erosion control devices.
- Clear right of ways.
- Perform roadway grading and machining of unpaved roads.
- Perform pavement repairs, pipe installations, and other drainage tasks.
- Inspect contract work and monitor manual tasks performed.
- Lead emergency response, including traffic accident clean-ups, snow and ice removal, and other emergencies as they occur.
- Operate equipment, including bulldozers, excavators, backhoes, skid steers, tandem dump trucks, front end loaders, tractor trailers, motor graders, rollers, and other heavy equipment.
- Commercial Driver’s License. (Note: If you don’t have this yet, STILL APPLY! You can get it through our on-the-job training within 360 days of hire).
- Knowledge of Intermediate Work Zone Safety.
- Experience in installation of traffic controls.
- Experience in 1+: shoulder and ditch maintenance, pipe installation, or asphalt patching.
- Experience in snow and ice removal operations.
- Experience in the operation of 2+ pieces of the following equipment: backhoes, tandem dump trucks, motor graders, front end loaders, forklifts, force feed loaders, asphalt distributors, crack sealing machines, track excavators, skid steers or sweepers.
- Ability to safely operate a Class A motor vehicle with N endorsement.
- Ability to perform flagging operations to safely guide traffic through work zones.
- Communications skills to receive and give effective written and verbal communications.
- Fitness to perform manual labor for extended time.
- Skills to operate equipment that vibrates.
- Flexibility to perform essential functions in extreme hot and cold weather.
- Agility to climb, bend, and traverse steep and uneven terrain.
- Strength to repetitively lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to act upon verbal and written communications.
- Safety-toe shoes.
- We may require work during non-traditional work hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- We will conduct a pre-employment drug test and check with your employers over the past 2 years for alcohol/drug abuse.
- This role has emergency call backs and scheduled night work during bad weather or other extreme circumstances.
- High school/GED diploma, and
- 5+ years of relevant experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
