New Higher Pay: $31,688 – $55,453
The Challenge
We are looking for an experienced transportation worker to join our Traffic Services Sign team.
 
In this role, you will:
    • Install, maintain, repair, & replace ground-mounted signs included:  Transit-Oriented Development (TODs) and Adopt-A-Highway signs.
    • Assist paint crews.
    • Operate and maintain hand and power tools.
    • Serve as a sign erector.
    • Haul paint supplies.
    • Flag traffic.
    • Transport inmates for work details.
 
What You Bring
    • Communications skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with crew members, other NCDOT staff, and the public.
    • Ability to work outside in extreme heat and cold.
    • Experience installing traffic controls, such as detours and lane closures.
    • Knowledge of sign design, layout, and fabrication.
    • Experience operating a sign truck with attachments.
    • Experience in the installation of roadway signs and Basic Incident Response.
    • Fitness to stand, walk, talk, and hear.  Pre-employment drug testing required.
    • 21+ years of age.
    • Safety toe shoes.
    • A Commercial Driver’s License. (Note: If you don’t have this, STILL APPLY! You can get it through our on the job training program within 360 days of hire.)
Notes
    • You will be subject to emergency callbacks for detours and bad weather (snow and ice removal).
    • You will be exposed to extreme conditions, such as ice, snow, difficult terrains, dust, extreme heat and cold, high volumes of traffic, and heavy construction equipment.
    • We will conduct a pre-employment drug test and a background check of your previous employers for the past 2 years for drug/alcohol abuse. We will also conduct a criminal background check so you can transport inmates to work details.
 
Education & Experience
    • High school/GED diploma, and
    • 3+ years of relevant experience; or
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
