Full-Time Resident Engineering Supervisor II
Job Description
- Administer major construction project contracts to ensure timely delivery, budget compliance, and staff supervision engaged in the inspection of these projects, including Construction Engineering & Inspection (CEI) staff, to ensure quality work and safety.
- Ensure quality work and safety compliance on all projects.
- Perform contract administration including communicating daily with contractors and construction office staff,
- Address project issues through Supplemental Agreements and Claims as needed.
- Create and monitor project records (correspondence, estimates, daily reports, and project material certification).
- Respond to inquiries from the public, local government, and news media.
- Schedule and lead meetings with contractors, staff, and other stakeholders.
- Perform project final inspection and warranty reviews.
- Supervise CEI staff including selecting based on needs & available candidates, monitoring performance, and approving timesheets.
- Maintain fiscal management, including accurate overrun monitoring and budget reviews.
- Proficiency in plan reading, highway engineering calculations, problem solving, and staff management.
- Computer skills in Microsoft Office, online databases, such as SAP, and HiCAMS.
- Knowledge of DOT policies and procedures and contract administration.
- Ability to apply engineering principles to difficult or complex engineering problems and make sound recommendations and decisions.
- Ability to independently communicate well verbally and in writing with stakeholders including senior management, local political officials, municipalities, property owners, consultant groups, and media outlets.
- Contract administration expertise to ensure projects are constructed in accordance with NCDOT’s Specifications, Standard Drawings, and Policies.
- Management experience supervising teams, including supervision internal and Construction Engineering Inspection staff to meet project goals.
- Experience making recommendations and decisions for simple or complex projects.
- Experience interpreting and communicating verbally and in writing details of plans, project documents, policies, and procedures to convey information to consultants, staff, and others.
- Experience leading and maintaining positive working relationships with environmental agencies, public officials, consultants, contractors and internal staff, in order to find acceptable solutions to infrastructure project problems.
- Ability to make inspections in all types of weather, and to work safely in an outside environment with exposure to hazards present on construction sites including traffic, heights, and traversing rough, steep, and uneven terrain.
- Fitness to perform moderate physical activity, such as walking, climbing, kneeling, and standing.
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
- Safety-toe shoes.
- We may require registration as a professional engineer with the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
- Your work will include emergency situations, nights, and weekends.
- You will be subject to high volumes of traffic and extreme temperatures/weather conditions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, and
- 4+ years of relevant experience, and
- 2+ years of supervisory experience; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
