The Challenge
We are looking for a senior Environmental Engineer to manage and lead our Monitoring & Stewardship group in our Environmental Analysis unit that supports the development of sustainable transportation infrastructure minimizing our impact on the human and natural environment.
 
In this role, you will:
    • Supervise and manage our Monitoring and Stewardship group that plans, designs, constructs, monitors, and leads the stewardship of NCDOT on-site stream, wetland, and buffer mitigation sites statewide.
    • Manage and supervise a group of engineers responsible for delivery of on-site mitigation design plans.
    • Manage and supervise the NCDOT’s On-site Mitigation Monitoring and Mitigation Stewardship programs.
    • Manage Private Engineering Firms contracts involving scope of work, estimates, project management tasks, scheduling, budgets, invoicing, and evaluations.
    • Coordinate and communicate with State and Federal Environmental Agencies regarding permit compliance related to our On-site Mitigation Program.
    • Assist Environmental Analysis staff with group budgets, special projects, and other assignments.
What You Bring
    • Experience with the principals and practices of environmental engineering relating to natural stream, wetland, and buffer design and monitoring.
    • Knowledge of Federal and State laws pertaining to environmental matters (specifically Compensatory Mitigation), as well as Federal Highway Administration regulations relating to other aspects of highway planning, design, and construction.
    • Experience managing performance monitoring of Compensatory Mitigation Sites to meet State and Federal Permitting Requirements.
    • Experience managing Stewardship of Compensatory Mitigation properties.
    • Experience supervising 3+ permanent employees, contractors, and/or consultants.
Education and Experience
    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, and
    • 5+ years of relevant experience, and
    • 3+ years of supervisory experience; or
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
 
Note
    • We may require you to be registered as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
