Full-Time Assistant District Engineer – Entry Level!
Job Description
- Manage project delivery.
- Monitor division and centrally let project construction schedules and cost reviews.
- Process access permits.
- Review engineering plans for subdivisions, commercial, and other developments requesting access to state highways.
- Review and approve developer plans and agreements for turn lanes or other roadway improvement projects.
- Coordinate preparation and review of traffic impact analyses.
- Develop schedules for planned improvements.
- Approve driveway permits, encroachment agreements, subdivision reviews, and road additions and abandonments within Davie, Forsyth, and Stokes counties.
- Represent NCDOT at meetings with planning organizations, municipalities, and other organizations.
- Manage Contract Administration of state- and federally-funded projects and for maintain those projects in HiCAMS.
- Assist our District Engineer and office staff with job assignments as a delegate or required.
- Experience applying engineering concepts to solve basic engineering problems.
- Knowledge of engineering standards, policies and procedures related to transportation.
- Customer service experience related to solving problems involving explaining complicated engineering concepts to customer groups.
- Experience writing memos, reports, and emails clearly conveying technical information and engineering concepts.
- Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
- You apply safety philosophy to all operations.
- Ability to work safely in an outside environment with exposure to hazards on construction sites including night work, heights, highway traffic and traversing rough terrain in evaluating highway construction.
- Good communications skills to communicate in a clear, concise, organized and persuasive manner in verbal and written communications.
- Ability to supervise activities of junior employees and instruct them in proper work methods of highway and bridge construction.
- Computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), and knowledge of HiCams and SharePoint/Plus preferred.
- Ability to safely drive a motor vehicle.
- Safety toe shoes.
- Management prefers candidates registered as a Professional Engineer by NC Board of Examiners for Engineers & Surveyors, and we may require registration as a professional engineer with the Board.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
