The Challenge
We are looking for an entry level engineer to be our Assistant Resident Engineer on our Beryl Road Resident Engineering team.
In this role, you will:
    • Assist our Resident Engineer in the day-to-day contract administration of major and minor transportation projects.
    • Supervise NCDOT staff and contractors and prepare/evaluate their performance evaluations.
    • Promote a safe working environment.
    • Prepare monthly and final estimates.
    • Conduct written and verbal communication with contractors, inspection staff, utility companies, and the public to ensure compliance with contract plans, standards, and specifications.
    • Evaluate data collected by field staff.
    • Review contract plans, specifications, and materials testing results.
What You Bring
    • Experience reading, interpreting, and administering highway construction plans and contracts.
    • Experience directing, assisting, or training staff.
    • Experience administering contracts.
    • Knowledge of the principles and practices of Civil Engineering and general concepts, practices, and theories used in construction, construction inspection, and/or construction surveying.
    • Ability to withstand extreme weather and terrain conditions while performing duties.
    • Ability to safely operate a State vehicle.
    • Safety toe shoes.
    • A high degree of work accuracy and precision.
    • You work well with minimal supervision.
Notes
    • Preference will be given to applicants who have EIT or Registered Professional Engineer.
    • You will be working in various types of weather and terrain on projects.
    • We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
    • You must be available, as necessary, to manage staff 7 days per week, 24 hours per day.
    • Your work time will be split, 70/30, between the office and the field.
    • You may be required to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours, as necessary.
 
Education and Experience
    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering; or
    • An equivalent combination of training and experience.
