Job Description

We are seeking a remote-working experienced bookkeeper for a private therapy practice, specialising in working with LGBTQ+ clients and relationship diversity. This opportunity has emerged due to our rapid growth, necessitating a dedicated part-time bookkeeping role. The role involves bookkeeping and related tasks, including billing clients, balancing books, communicating with insurance companies and clients, and collecting payments. Knowledge of QuickBooks is essential.

Harrison Psychology Group is an LGBTQ+ affirmative team of 11 highly-trained, expert psychologists with offices in central London and Brighton. We aim to provide expert mental health care with a non-judgemental and compassionate approach. Currently, the group serves around 120 clients, and is expected to expand to around 180 within the next six months.

This is an excellent opportunity to work in a finance-orientated job role in the private mental health sector. Using your remote bookkeeping expertise, you will enhance the operational efficiency of our team who are making a genuine difference in people’s mental health.

Job title: Bookkeeper
Job scope: To support the Clinical Director with billing, collecting payments from insurance companies and clients and balancing the books on QuickBooks and assisting with payroll.
Reporting to: Dr Siri MacIntyre-Harrison, Clinical Director of Harrison Psychology Group
Job type: Freelance contract
Salary: £15-20p/h (depending on experience)
Location: Remote, with occasional travel to Brighton and Central London offices
Hours: 8-16 hours per week

Key Responsibilities:

  • Update our QuickBooks bookkeeping system recording all incoming and outgoing funds in the ledger
  • Prepare monthly P&L statements, balance sheets and cash flow reports
  • Handle client billing, track revenue generated from therapy sessions, and chasing up any outstanding payments
  • Handle insurance company billing and reimbursement and tracking the status of insurance billing and reimbursements
  • Handle payroll and produce monthly breakdowns of payroll expenses, including salaries, benefits, and any other compensation-related costs
  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations, including documentation for deductible expenses and accurate reporting of income.
  • Run year-end procedures through QuickBooks to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance.
  • Provide support for other related projects and tasks as needed
  • Respond to queries over the telephone, email and face to face

Person Specification:

Essential

  • You must live and have the right to work in the UK.
  • Working knowledge of QuickBooks bookkeeping software.
  • Experience of creating management accounts as well as delivering general bookkeeping.
  • Ability to work independently and flexibly

  • AAT /ACCA / CIMA qualified and registered with the relevant regulatory body.
  • Educated to A level, NVQ Level 3 in Business and Administration or equivalent experience.

Desirable

  • Educated to degree level.
  • Previous experience of bookkeeping for a private therapy practice

Skills and Abilities

  • Fluent English language skills.
  • Effective communication skills and sensitivity in dealing with insurance companies and therapy clients.
  • Understanding of client confidentiality as it pertains to psychotherapy.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work remotely with occasional in-person work at our London or Brighton locations.
  • Ability to work autonomously and to deadline.
  • Knowledge and understanding of diversity is essential in this role.
  • An empathic and compassionate disposition.
