Full-Time Senior Assistant District Engineer
Job Description
- Review and oversee complex developments, encroachments, driveway permits, and subdivisions.
- Serve as our department lead coordinating reviews and be the point person for developers, engineers, and government agencies to contact concerning maintenance issues arising during the construction of Transportation Improvement (TIP) projects.
- Attend all final inspections for TIP and certain purchase order projects in Wake county.
- Assist our district engineer with over dimension permits, addition and abandonment of rights of way, and review of Traffic Impact Analyses (TIAs).
- Serve as a supervisor in the absence of our district engineer.
- Attend meetings with developers, engineers, and government agencies on high profile developments throughout Wake County.
- Represent NCDOT on technical issues and advise parties involved on policies.
- Experience reviewing project plans and specifications for compliance with established practices and principles of Engineering (i.e. – Spot Safety, locally managed projects, subdivisions, right of way encroachments and driveway permit applications).
- Management experience supervising the direction, management, and training of staff and/or contract engineering staff to achieve established project delivery metrics.
- Demonstrated ability in planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills with the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships and customer service.
- Computer skills in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and GIS software.
- Ability to analyze and solve difficult highway maintenance and construction problems, prepare and review reports, and communicate with others in technical terms.
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
- Ability to train employees and plan, coordinate and supervise their work.
- Steel toe shoes.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, and
- 3+ years of relevant experience; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
- You will be required to work nights and weekends as needed for emergency and planned operations in all types of weather conditions and on uneven surfaces and slopes.
- We may require registration as a Professional Engineer by NC Board of Examiners for Engineers & Surveyors.
