Full-Time Engineering Technician III
Job Description
- Serve as point of contact for right of way research requests, survey inquiries, field staking requests, and CAD plan creation requests.
- Provide technical, supervisory, management, and functional support to our District and Assistant District Engineers in the administration of programs of a three-county district.
- Inspect encroachments and interpretation and conveyance of road histories as found in the District road files.
- Assist with creating District-managed Purchase Order contracts.
- Review and process permit requests.
- Regularly communicate with developers and private sector engineers concerning requests.
- Maintain and update permit files.
- Perform field inspections of proposed permit sites.
- Perform guardrail inspection and process repair request.
- Experience using surveying equipment, instruments, levels, data collectors, and GPS equipment.
- Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
- Customer service experience related to solving problems involving explaining complicated engineering concepts to customer groups.
- Experience analyzing and interpreting highway construction plans.
- Ability to determine and convey right of way data to the public by using survey experience and knowledge including interpretation of plats, deeds, and other surveying documentation including surveying case law to assist in determining right of way boundaries, maintenance, and construction limits.
- Ability to read/interpret construction permit plans and specifications.
- Knowledge and understanding of inspection procedures.
- You are independently proficient with survey equipment such as total station, level, and other equipment needed to perform topo, stake grades, pinpoint right of way.
- Computer experience using Microsoft Office suite, experience/ability to learn MicroStation, and other computer skills.
- Ability to perform independent inspections and apply engineering judgement in making decisions.
- Proficient with office equipment such as calculators and computers.
- Good communications skills.
- Ability to work in an outside environment with exposure to hazards on construction sites including heights, highway traffic, lifting heavy objects, and traversing rough terrain.
- Ability to use hand tools such as axes, shovels, etc. in all types of weather conditions.
- Safety toe shoes.
- Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline, and
- 3+ years of technician experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Work may include nights and weekends.
