Part-Time Health Inequalities & Community Engagement Officer
Job Description
Job Description
Prevent Breast Cancer Charity is looking for a Health Inequalities & Community Engagement Officer to lead an ongoing campaign to remove the barriers to screening and encourage uptake among women living in deprived areas and from ethnic communities. Research has revealed that women from these groups are less likely to attend screening appointments.
The role requires excellent communication skills to be able to engage with people from different communities throughout Greater Manchester. The Health Inequalities Officer must be proactive and confident when approaching community groups and individuals, as well as able to forge strong relationships and work collaboratively with the Greater Manchester Breast Screening Programme (GMBSP) team, especially the Cancer Screening Improvement Leads (CSILs), and local organisations such as Answer Cancer. Good research and team-working skills are also essential to this role.
About the Charity
Prevent Breast Cancer is the only charity in the UK entirely dedicated to the prediction and prevention of breast cancer. Across the UK over 55,900 women develop breast cancer each year; tragically 11,500 do not survive.
Our purpose is simple: to create a future free from breast cancer, where there is no before or after diagnosis. And thanks to better predictive tools and early intervention, we truly believe that for future generations, breast cancer will be a thing of the past. This means acting now, to help more people live a life that’s free from the disease. It means funding research aimed solely at preventing breast cancer. And it means creating a world where thousands of people are spared from ever experiencing the pain and suffering it causes. Put simply, our purpose is in our name.
