Full-Time Transportation Engineering Director – Deputy Division Engineer
Job Description
- Support our Division Engineer in the management and oversight of all Division activities, including construction, maintenance, operations, and project development.
- Perform advanced engineering calculations.
- Provide technical engineering assistance.
- Assist in the development of division programs.
- Be familiar with and interpret all maintenance, operations, pre-construction, and construction policies and procedures.
- Monitor division-wide programs and activities and will ensure each are performed within established budgets.
- Provide technical and administrative assistance on a division-wide basis for the Division Maintenance Engineer, Project Development Engineer, and the Division Construction Engineer.
- Respond to inquiries from the public, DOT management, news media, etc., regarding NCDOT policies and procedures, Division projects, plans, and proposed work activities.
- Direct the work of other engineers.
- Apply sound engineering principles to difficult or complex engineering problems and makes recommendations and decisions.
- Knowledge and understanding of engineering concepts, practices and theories used in program development and experience planning, developing, designing, scheduling, tracking and completing projects independently or with minimal supervision.
- Experience interpreting and communicating, verbally and in writing, details of plans, project documents, policies, and procedures to convey information to consultants, NCDOT staff, elected and appointed officials, and others.
- Experience leading and maintaining positive working relationships with environmental agencies, public officials, consultants, contractors, and staff, in order to find acceptable solutions to infrastructure project problems.
- Experience supervising, motivating, counseling, and training engineers and technicians.
- Customer service and communication experience with the public, local government officials, and NCDOT employees, including public meetings and field reviews.
- Experience supervising 3+ permanent employees, contractors, and/or consultants.
- Ability to independently perform engineering analyses and prepare technical, statistical and managerial reports.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Ability to maintain multiple projects and complete difficult assignments within specified time requirements.
- We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
- We may require certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, and
- 5+ years of relevant experience, and
- 2+ years of supervisory experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
